This holiday is our once in a lifetime trip to New Zealand and we certainly struck gold when we booked for 2 nights at Richmond Lodge. From the moment we arrived Jen and Cary made us feel at home and nothing was too much trouble for them. The accommodation was immaculate and had everything we needed. A really comfortable bedroom with beautiful bathroom facilities, a comfortable sitting room with access to books ,a dining area and hot drinks making facilities not to mention home made cakes! Then another pleasant patio area to sit and enjoy the sun outside. Outside there was a beautiful garden and swimming pool. Who d want to go out and leave this beautiful home with everything! Our hosts were amazingly helpful when planning our trips around the area and where to eat. Cary even offered to collect us from town after we’d visited a restaurant. Jenny’s breakfast was a feast! Home made muesli and fresh bread with fresh fruits and yoghurt followed by cooked eggs and bacon, then more toast and jam if you could manage it!

Wonderful home from home stay at Richmond Lodge!

Our room was beautifully furnished, with a choice of blankets and doonas to suit the fussiest person. There were also beach towels for the pool, or to take with us to the Hot Springs beach.  The lounge has tea and coffee, biscuits, and even yummy muffins! Our lovely breakfast was served on the balcony, with a beautiful view of the bay. We had a choice of 3 delicious mueslis, a fresh fruit salad, eggs and bacon options and toast as well. And of course orange juice, and our choice of tea or coffee. Certainly no lunch required after all this. Nothing was too much trouble for Jen and Cary, they are charming hosts.

Lovely 5 star bed and breakfast accommodation, in the true sense

I had the pleasure of staying with Jen and Cary at Richmond Lodge for 11 days in Jan / Feb 2019. They were the perfect hosts who looked after me so well. My room was superb and the shared lounge was comfortable and had a choice of Jen's delicious cakes and biscuits always available. Breakfast was provided on the front porch with a superb view overlooking the town and the bay. I had fruit, yogurt and Jen's muesli and it was wonderful. I didn't have the cooked breakfast but others did whilst I was there and it looked great. Jen and Cary were keen to know what I planned to do during the day and had some great advice if I wasn't sure what I wanted. I spent most of my days walking the many wonderful trails on the Coromandel and it was lovely to know that the pool would be waiting when I got back to the lodge.  Cary keeps it immaculately clean and ensures that the cover is on during the night and early mornings which meant that by late afternoon, it was 30 C which eased away any aches that I may have had. It was deep enough to be able to do aquarobics if that's your thing and I enjoyed a few sessions on my less strenuous walking days. The lodge is at the top of quite a steep hill and it took about 10 - 15 minutes to walk down into the town. I am fit enough to make the walk back easily but Cary was always prepared to pick up anyone who didn't fancy the walk at the end of the evening. I had a fabulous holiday and Jen and Cary played a big part in that.  Whether you just want an overnight stop or a longer stay like I did, I highly recommend the Lodge and if I am ever back in New Zealand, that's exactly where I will be staying.

Fantastic base for exploring the Coromandel

Jen and Cary couldn’t have been more welcoming, even though we were over 2 hours later than our expected arrival time! So helpful! Arranged for a restaurant to remain open for an evening meal for us. Beautifully furnished and decorated large bedroom - gorgeous neutral shades with a large bathroom with walk-in shower, walk-in dressing room, stunning patio with furniture, and views over the water! Breakfast was amazing, consisting of Jen’s homemade muesli and delicious homemade bread! Thick slices of seeded bread and lightly toasted! Scrumptious! Also fruit salad, yoghurt, compot, fruit juice and anything we required! They really went out of their way and were truly the perfect hosts! Couldn’t fault anything about our stay!! Highly recommend! 

Perfect accommodation!

Lovely, helpful hosts who couldn't have been more welcoming and friendly. Good-sized room with a very comfortable bed. Great shower, too, and what a breakfast – especially with the views over the bay! Would happily stay there again.

Couldn’t find a fault if I wanted to

Had a fabulouse time in Thames whilst staying at Richmond Lodge. The owners Jen and Cary couldn't have been more welcoming if they tried. We stayed in their last room at the back with a little sitting/breakfast lounge to the side and a lovely sun trap of a patio. The rooms were of Boutique Standard and tastefully decorated. As for Jen's cooking and fair ~ lordy her little homemade cakes were scrumptious and her muesili along with the breakfasts they provided was devine. These pair are what a good B&B are all about. Great place, great accommodation and lovely hosts ~ all made our stay quite memorable

Beautiful place to stay

This is a very well appointed historic villa based at the top of a hill overlooking the Firth of Thames. 

The current owners were just the nicest people and an absolutely pleasure to deal with.

The rooms were very well appointed and those little touches of fresh home made cupcakes and biscuits were a treat.

The breakfast were top class and you feel very spoiled with home made bread and preserves.

The grounds are kept in amazing condition and the pool looks great (The weather wasn't quite warm enough for us to test the pool).
