We are locals and had a wonderful 3 day stay at Appledore. The hosts are 1st Class and the facilities are way above any usually available- the grounds, the setting, the breakfasts, the accommodation, cleanliness, peace, tranquility, nearby attractions...I could go on. The cost was way less than you would have thought for a lodge of this level of luxury. Ashley and Colleen are there to help and host in a very friendly considerate and non intrusive way. If you are lucky the nectarines will be in season- best tasting I have had ( serious), We walked away with a big bag.

Wonderful

Americans who stay here will be forgiven if they think they are in the calm rolling hills of Eastern Montana or the beautiful farmland of Southwestern Virginia.  Notice I didn't say the Rockies or the Cascades -- this is Northland New Zealand and the terrain, while spectacular in its own way, is not the New Zealand of the movies with its soaring peaks.  And if you make the very short 7-minute drive over to the eastern coast, you will swear you are at Boothbay Harbor or Camden in Maine.  Wherever you think you are, you will be right at home with Colleen and Ashley, as warm hosts as one will find anywhere.  Typically a knock on the front door will bring Ashley, who will escort you to your suite, like to be found in a separate building constructed specifically for BnB guests adjacent to the main house.  Take a look our your back patio and enjoy a brook that, while it doesn't actually babble, might as well be right out of a movie.  The bed was comfy and Colleen leaves tasty treats as a welcome gift.  Breakfast is served in the main house and usually includes a ham so good I joking threatened to walk off with it.  The nearest town is Paihia, a combination beach town and tour boat harbor, with plenty of bars, restaurants and boat ride options.  During our too-short visit we took advantage of the pricey-but-absolutely-worth-every-penny plane ride over to Cape Reinga, which otherwise would have been an exhausting day-long car trek.  The views from the plane -- especially Doubtless Bay -- are so spectacular that the word "spectacular" doesn't quite get it.  Up near the tip of northern New Zealand it reminded me of ... well, nothing I've ever seen before, so I guess I will say it will always remind me of charming, friendly Northland New Zealand.  Thank you Ashley and Colleen for a lovely stay.

Better Late than Never .... Lovely Hosts, Lovely Suite, Lovely View

Colleen and Ashley gave us a warm welcome after our trip up from Auckland by car. The accommodation, breakfast and hospitality were first rate, at their beautiful location by the river. They even dealt with the motorway toll fees for us on their computer. They were also able to give us tips on visiting the local tourist attractions, especially as our visit happened to coincide with Waitangi Day. We can highly recommend this B&B to other travellers to the North Island.

A great start to our tour of New Zealand

Staying at Appledore was a relaxing and “hyggelig”/  cozy experience - very nice room, beautiful surroundings and the nicest hosts. At any time this is a place to recommend. And you don’t need the tourist information because you are told about all the “must see’s” in the area - a big extra bonus

Soooo nice

Lifetime college friends experienced a wonderful stay at Appledore Lodge earlier this winter (just before the COVID 19 pandemic exploded worldwide).  Coleen and Ashley were exceptional hosts ensuring that we were oriented to the best that the area had to offer for our bucket list trip to New Zealand.  The Lodge is top shelf: clean and comfortable accommodations, excellent breakfast, enlightening conversation, and located in a serene and natural setting along the river.  Wonderful stop between Auckland and our later Rotorua destination.

We stayed there for two nights and had a wonderfull time. More hospitallity and accommodating you are not able to find. You feel very velcome and Colleen & Ashley gave a lot of information about activities in this area, thank you very much.

One of the best place in New Zealand

What a charming place, the room was amazing. Large bathroom with fluffy towels and spacious shower . The bed was comfortable with a lot of pillows ( love that) and crisp white linen. And ofcourse the VIEW!! 
Outside the room there is a small porch, the room provides wine😊, perfect place to enjoy the spectacular view of the river, the hills and the pool. 
Breakfast is lovely, they even have a seagull who came for his morning snack!
Loved everything about this place and Colleen and Ashley are the most gracious hosts!!
If we ever visit NZ again we are sure going to book Appledore Lodge!

Wonderful stay!!

We stayed for two Nights and had a beautiful accommodation. The host were verry nice, accommodating and helpful. They have a beautiful property with a river and a pool. There's even a special guest in the mornings.
We enjoyed our stay verry much and recommend it for everyone.

Comfortable & accommodating

A super breakfast. Wonderful Lodge and a great View. Quiet and nice location near Pathia and Kerikeri. Close to wonderful walks and great nature View. Thank you Colleen and Ashley.  Hope to see you again soon.

Best Place in NZ

Very beautifull place. Most wonderfull service and quality we have ever experienced. A super breakfast Thanks to Colleen and Ashley. We recieved also a lot of advises and assistance, for instance even check inn help en printing our tickets for our return flight.  Verry nice and helpful people!
