So on the 20th of February my bus of at least 50 was heading to kaiteriteri for a couple of days when we got caught in the middle of cyclone Gita. The weather was crazy, rivers were crazy and three quarters of the way there the driver was told that the road was closed. Our driver spent ages trying to work out what to do and in the end we were offered free shelter by the lovely gentleman at customhouse. Unfortunately he was already full however he lent us blankets and pillows to sleep on the floor and free Internet to contact our families. None of us had a great night however it was really kind of him to accommodate a whole bus for nothing.

Checked in to a 8-person dorm, all beds had dents or were half broken. Sheets were dirty and duvet smelled bad. Bathroom was ok, kitchen was VERY DIRTY, and missed almost everything of utencils. Not a pleasant experience. Even witnessed that they did not change the linen on the beds :O

Very dirty and uncomfortable! 

I would first like to say before getting into the problems that the owner was very friendly and helpful and offered an excellent tv room and pool and table tennis table however, that does not make up for the disgusting hostel that he runs. The room itself was dusty the sheets were stained and the bunk beds quite frankly made for children they were so small. The kitchen is something else and quite frankly is a health hazard, I refused to eat in there. The smell from the fridge was disgusting I'm a nurse and have a very strong stomach but i gagged from the smell. It was cluttered and outdated and what made things worse was the insects in the cupboards. The showers were outdated and the drains were blocked. And with only 2 female toliets as one door is hanging off so you can't use it made it difficult to get a chance to go. I will be putting a formal complaint with kiwi experience expressing my concern for the safety of this premise. I wouldn't stay there and would never recommend it. 

I'm worst hostel I've ever stayed in

We stayed here for 1 night as part of the Kiwi Experience. 
I have written to complain to the Kiwi Experience as this hostel is disgusting and dirty. The smell coming from the kitchen is like rotting chicken carcasses. It is filthy.
The bedrooms and bathrooms are ok but it could do with updating. 
The guy that runs the place is really nice though.
Its quite a long walk into town

Worst Hostel Ever

This place is aspiring to become faulty towers. It looks like the place has been acquired from an old strip club and literally opened the next day as a hostel. It still has the pole in the middle of the main room! The old dusty beer taps are tapped up and fridges are still behind the bar full of rubbish. 

Pros:
-Has a game room with table tennis, consoles and free pool. 
- It's cheap

Cons:
-Hostel is really dirty, there is literally bird faeces everywhere. On the floors, sofas and the games tables. We lost count at 50 droppings..
-Kitchen is quite small, dirty in places. 
-Its quite far from the centre of town. 
-Towels are really old and were covered in tape.
-The room was air all day which is fine but there was no heater in the room which was then close to 10c

It was an interesting experience, could be a good hostel with a bit of work. Which I doubt will happen as it's only on the kiwi experience route for the next 8 months. Won't be returning in its current state.

The guy that runs the place was really nice and friendly guy but he needs to step his game up or go do something else.
