Boutique Hotel De Barones van Leyden

We took the train to Leiden from Schiphol and walked for about 20 minutes to the hotel, since we wanted to start exploring as soon as possible. The Hotel does offer a shuttle service from Schiphol, as well as from Leiden Centraal Station if you would rather not walk. We were welcomed by Guido and he provided excellent personalised service throughout our stay. This hotel is a great choice if you want to get away from the big hotel chains with their generic feel. It has 5 uniquely decorated rooms with an intimate dining area. We had a large room with on-suite (honeymoon suite). The room is decorated in a unique classic style with a beautiful view of the canal. Coffee, and a selection of tea’s are provided in the room. There is also a fridge with a selection of beverages, as well as a safe. Everything you may need has been provided in the bathroom (soap, shower gel, shampoo, shower cap, even a wash cloth). The room has universal electrical outlets that are compatible with most countries’ electrical plugs, complete with USB charging outlets (not all types though, only European and North American standards by the looks of it). This is a very nice touch. (In contrast we stayed at a large hotel at Schiphol airport that caters mostly for travelers and they had only the Dutch wall sockets and sold adaptors at an insane price). They provide an excellent breakfast that looks pricey at first glance, but is well worth it when you compare with what is available from the nearby restaurants. Guido attended us at breakfast and as usual, the service was great. The only criticism is that there is no air conditioning in the room. They do provide a fan and the windows can open. The ambient temperature during our stay was between 25 and 30 degrees C so it did not bother us.
