Hostal Nacional is a very relaxing place. The staff was friendly and the atmosphere was very positive. There is also a nice bar downstairs where you can hang out in the evenings.

I couldn't ask for more. :)

Chill - in a great neighborhood!

I travel to GDL many time through out the year. Recently, I ran into Hostal National and it is absolutely amazing! The staff are so friendly and being a solo traveler that I am, have many events for solo travelers, friends, and couples. I was fortunate to be there on Dia de los muretos and they had a awesome face painting event with a 
 DJ on sight at its bar. 

The area is also very alive with many bars surrounding the hostel and only a 5 minute walk to  Chapultepec. This will always be my preference hostel anytime I come to GDL!

Best Hostel to stay in Guadalajara

I loved the place. It was cute and centrally located, and they provide filtered drinking water in the kitchen. You'll need to ring the buzzer to the left of the gate to be let in. It was pretty clean, and has such great sections to hang out in. Sonia, new as concierge, was so helpful, patient, and kind. It's walking distance of several restaurants. I was disappointed that before my trip I emailed them at 2 different email addresses and never got a response trying to confirm my booking. 

So if you don't want to make an expensive international call, you may need to use an app like Pinger or use Google Hangouts to speak to someone. If you're modest, make sure to bring a robe if you don't want to be in just a towel since the bathroom is co-ed. Look at the other side of the street if your driver's GPS shows it on the wrong side.

Great cool looking hostel

I have mix feelings with this place, overall, as a service provider is not good!

They have a serious problem with the cleaning, especially in the bathroom area. No toilet paper for 2 days in one wc.. you could tell that no one cleaned the bathroom area the entire Sunday... and not hot water in one of the showers, and they only have 3 (showers and wc)  and only one sink in one floor with more than 16 beds ... 

Beds are "comfortable enough" but the pillows are super thin, you can tell they are super cheap ones...and probably not the cleanest!

Other than that, the Staff is AMAZING, seriously super nice people, they help me a lot with the reservation, for 14 people, the whole time they were super helpful.

The building is super cute, the terrace is sooo nice!!! the vibe of the place is great! Location is convenient! People are nice.... beer is cheap!  Could be the perfect place!

But the filthy bathroom.... really kills the good experience! :(

Not the best option but great personal service

I usually go a couple of times a year to this place but this time i got stoled in the hostal the mates where over my stuff the whole time and when i ask for my stuff they just try to make the full the manager was helpful as a death cat so he barely did something, bad vibe this time, bad experience, bad service like non sense of service from the staff.

nice but the staff suck

My friend and I stayed in a double private room here for four nights. Upon check-in they snap a mugshot and issue paper circulation-restricting wristbands to make certain every person who enters is paying. Even though we had a private room, we were not permitted to bring friends over. This is despite the fact that each room has electronic code entry, which takes no less than five attempts to actually work. They do not allow you to bring outside alcohol from the shops because they have a bar on-site. That would be fine if the bar was ever open. It was closed 95% of the time we wanted it. To exit the building you must wait to be buzzed through a metal gate. That is a major fire hazard. On the subject of fire hazards, the smoke alarm in our room was detached from the ceiling and sitting on the counter with no batteries. To sum it up, they have all these rules for "safety and security", but if they actually cared about the safety and security of the patrons, they could start by having working smoke alarms and a way to exit.

Furthermore, the room was so poorly soundproofed that the music from the bar next door was loud and clear all day and night. The beds were hard. There is no air conditioning, no matter how hot the temperature gets. I will not be back.

Prison-like

Bathrooms were filthy and smelled like ammonia which made our stay very unpleasant. The rooms had wiring for air con units but they haven’t been installed. This hostel has potential but it really needs to be thoroughly cleaned daily and needs a little repair/maintenance.
