In a city full of gems, some large and gaudy, some dulled by time and wear, Princess Elena is a small but brilliant diamond. My partner and I had come to Malta and Valletta for a single night in October 2019.  We came in search of Caravaggio.  The Princess Elena may very well be the closest we felt to being in his presence. Very centrally located and a short walk from the main bus depot and City Gate, the B&B is stunningly fitted into a 16th century building of the type that the great artist would have known. The rooms are large, with old beamed ceilings, beautiful antique furniture and well-appointed bathrooms. Our room looked out over the street below and its beautiful buildings.  Although the room was on the second floor, and there was no elevator, it was truly a privilege to walk up a stone staircase that clearly showed the wear of 500 years of footsteps. 
Our host, Lena (is she the Princess Elena?), greeted us very warmly on our arrival and saw that we were comfortably settled.  Although we were only staying for one night, she made us feel at home.  In the morning, she served us coffee and cooked bacon and eggs to order, all in the dining room where there was already a substantial breakfast laid out. As we were catching a flight in the evening, Lena let us leave our luggage at the B&B while we explored Valletta and its harbor, and even gave us a key to the front door so that we could collect our luggage if no one was present to let us in.
Our stay at Princess Elena made this short journey to Valletta one we will always treasure.

“Oh, the beauty of this place!”

Lovely 500 yr old small friendly 3 bedroom boutique hotel. Perfect location for site seeing and close to main bus terminal.
We stayed for four nights and had a  lovely large room (2). The bed was very comfortable but the bed linen and towels very much need renewing as all a little thread bare.  Fair bit of noise in the early hours due to bin collection which happens most days.
The staff are incredibly welcoming and friendly. Great bacon and egg breakfast .

The confirmation of our booking payment stated payment as being by credit card and the hotel held our card details for this. On arrival we were advised that their bank would not accept card payments, and cash was requested.  We did not have easy access outside the UK to the amount needed and it was going to cause us a lot of hassle and inconvenience. In spite of this situation having apparently been a problem for several months (so plenty of time for new card payment arrangements to be set up) and in spite of having our email address, the owner had not notified us in advance that cash payment would be necessary. We found this unacceptable so paid our first night with our holiday cash and transferred to other cheaper accommodation (also of a higher standard) and which could take a credit card, for the rest of our week’s holiday.  

After one night we had additional concerns about presentation and poor content of the breakfast (e.g. table not properly laid), also with a very small shower cubicle with doors that didn’t shut properly and which could benefit from better cleaning (or replacement). We felt that the accommodation was overpriced although the building is lovely and the host very genial.

Lovely building, lots of potential

This 3 room hotel was really hard to find since the sign on the wall by the front door was tiny. But inside it was so quirky and cute. We loved its uniqueness. The room was spacious with a weird almost round but comfy bed. We also had two balconies all to ourselves. The owner was super helpful but his English is poor. Tea making facilities in the room but weirdly no spoons to get the tea bag out of the cup!
Breakfast was fine with cereals, fruit juices, yoghurts, cold meats, cheeses, fresh rolls as well as choices of eggs and toast for a cooked breakfast. Great location- really easy to get to everything in Valletta . Even a peak of a sea view from one of our balconies. We enjoyed our stay.

Boutique hotel Valletta

This little three-room hotel in the heart of Valletta is located in a beautiful traditional Maltese house right in the heart of the city.  It's just a step away from the bustle of Republic and Merchants Streets, but far enough to ensure a peaceful stay.

Our room was spacious and comfortable and the price extremely reasonable. Four nights including breakfast in the heart of a capital city for 300 euros was great value for money.  

Besides tea and coffee making facilities in the room, we could get refreshments in the breakfast room at any time, day or night. Breakfast was plentiful, with good coffee, cereals, cakes, mince pies, bread, toast, and lots of fresh fruit including avocados, which meant we could have our favourite breakfast dish of avocado on toast. Soya milk was provided for our plant-based dietary requirement. There were cold meats and cheese, and optional bacon and eggs for non-vegans.

Host Walter wanted us to treat his house as if it were our home, and his staff went out of their way to ensure we had a memorable few days.  They gave us lots of information about what to see and do, and warned us about the chaotic traffic on the island, which saved us wasting hours trying to visit Gozo in a day!  Thank you to all the staff who made such a contribution to making our holiday a big success.

A good choice in Valletta!

We arrived late in the day to a warm welcome. This small intimate my m MB hotell9lkjl provides 5 star personal service with amazing relaxed and helpful attitude. Breakfast was enough to feed us for the day and staff could not do enough. Sorry we couldn't stay longer. Good luck. 

Traditional quality building with traditional quality friendly service. 

I am sorry folks but the reviews on this hotel from other travellers just are puzzling to me.  To be clear, this is not a 4 or 5 star hotel; I would say it makes the 2-3 star. Now if the price for staying here matched the stars, okay...but we paid (mid week) 150 Euro for a double room.  So firstly, this is a very small 'hotel' and would be better described almost as a B*B rather than a hotel.  It has only a few rooms in the main hotel and I think there is another building attached.  There is no elevator so if you have any issues with climbing stairs, please note this at booking.  When you enter the 'hotel' you walk in to a very tiny (long) reception type area.  There are stairs immediately to the side of the reception desk and then you go up to get to the various rooms and to the breakfast area.  Our room and I think every room is facing San Paul street and for us, because what they call Malta windows were a feature of the room and because the shutters were very old and did not close properly, it was ridiculously noisy.  In fact there was a small sitting type area in that window area which was, frankly useless.  You could put a table there but no one, realistically could sit comfortably there.  There were a set of doors that you could close to block off that part of the room but they did not close properly and again from very early morning, even with ear plugs, there was the constant sound of traffic and trucks.  the room itself was fine.  The bed was a bit odd (rectangle mattress on a round base) but the mattress was fine.  The pillows however were rock solid. They were so very uncomfortable to sleep on.  Bathroom was fine.  Shower with good pressure, etc.  There was a small table in the middle of the room and the wi-fi was decent. There is a breakfast room on one of the floors but the breakfast was not great.  I do not know why someone would say that it was a lovely breakfast.  You can get cooked eggs which I think the guy made on a type of portable skillet downstairs. Apart from that, there was bread and a few other pastry like things but nothing else.  Honestly, no.   What was the best part of this is the staff who were fabulous but sorry, this is not a place that is a beautifully preserved historic building with a lovely sitting area, etc.  It just is not.  i will add one proviso here and say we were in the main building.  Maybe the building adjacent is better but I do not think so....
