This nice historic house is located 10 minutes walking from the city center, the museum, or the Merdeka plaza where you can find a grocery store and fast foods.
It is also 15 minutes walking (or 5Mr by Grab) from the Topspot Food court.
We were a party of 4: 2 parents and 2 kids. We get the 2 communicating rooms upstair. the bathroom was private to these rooms. The rooms were great and the air conditioning was good. Just bring some ear plug if you are disturbed by the street (cars and motorbikes) noise during the night.
So, everything was nice. However, the biggest added value to this guesthouse is the family running it.
Annie, Eric and Anson made this stay wonderful! 
They organised us one night stays to different National Parks for a fair price. We kept the rooms for the whole stay, left the luggages there and took just a small bag for the national parks trips. I had very specific requests and nothing was too complicated for Annie.
After a week, we felt like leaving good friends.

 

Friendly house, best deal to visit Sarawak !

Annie and Eric (who run Fairview) are the most friendly and welcoming hosts. It made the stay very comfortable and relaxing. Annie was amazing at organising all our trips to the surrounds of Sarawak for us, prior to our arrival, and it all went smoothly when we arrived. The building has some regal old-world colonial charm. If we return to Kuching, we'll definitely stay here.

Felt like home

We loved our stay at Fairview - the house is amazingly historic and charming - we stayed in the family room - so spacious. Annie and Eric are amazingly welcoming and felt like family - they really go above and beyond - wonderful people. I highly recommend the trips that Annie can organise - some of the most amazing trips I've been on. Kuching is a fantastic place, and the Fairview is a perfect base to explore it from. All the best Annie and Eric - thank you for everything!

Fairview is a real gem

A very charming house to stay in Kuching, very close from Museums and the center of the city.
The owners are very nice people, always ready to satisfy their guests.
One recommendation: if possible, ask for a room at the opposite of the road.



A nice place in Kuching

Just an enjoyable experience with Eric and Anne. Clean, tidy, and wonderful time. I felt like I were in the jungle but it was in the middle of town close to everthing. Walking distance to main attractions. Museum was closed at the time for renovation. But the waterfront was lively where you could easily meet strangers and they become friends.

Excellent relaxing and close to town centre

This is one of those cases , where the reality is better , than what you see in the internet. We had the standard double room , which turned out to be a very specious room with a wooden floor and a very big , extremly comfortable bed. (Relativly hard matrasse , I slept better than in my bed at home) The attached bathroom was also big , and both were absolutley clean. The location is perfect , you stay in a proper house amongst trees , but you are still in walking distance to the waterfront. Annie was very nice and helpful. I can highly recommend this guesthouse.

I would always stay here again

Mixed feelings about our stay at Fairview Guesthouse. 

The positives - The house has a wonderful history with interesting and unique knickknacks in each room (photos, furniture, trophies) that once belonged to the very prestigious previous house owner (and designer). We even found a photo of the owner in the Chinese History Museum in town and a street named after him! A real piece of Kuching history.  
The room also was lovely and spacious with a beautiful old bath.
Annie offers a very reasonable price for a beautiful house and an 'adequate' breakfast (just enough to get you going for 10 ringgit pp). 
Also there is a TV and cosy living room to spend time in (good for families).

Negatives - the house is next to a large and very busy road, with no sound-proofing. We found it hard to sleep, being woken up by motorbikes revving past. We asked Annie if we could move rooms, she suggested moving to the house in the garden which I felt would be just as noisy (maybe I'm wrong about this) and also had no wifi so we decided to stay in our original room, but we struggled to sleep (we of course don't expect pure silence in Kuching centre but this was really like the motorbikes were in the room with us!).
Also, while the house is beautiful and interesting, it is quite worn-down and dusty. If only some money and time could be spent restoring it to its previous state. The garden can't really be enjoyed now either because the noisy road has encroached on the estate.
Finally, the house is a little further out of the main Kuching centre, only by about 10 mins walk but this can seem far when it's hot!

I'm very torn writing this review as I don't think I'll ever forget this guesthouse, but I don't know if I could fully recommend it to others.
