We had a great trip to Vila Jelita last month.  The manager, Gintare, was really friendly and eager to ensure we had a good time.  Our room was actually a self contained flat (bedroom and bathroom) in a large house.  We had access to a beautifully maintained communal kitchen with our choice of using a dining room or adjoining outdoor deck.  As we stayed for a few days, it was nice to have breakfast or lunch in the house and we never bumped into anyone else using the facilities.  The house seemed like a typical Lithuanian one with interesting architecture, which seems unique to the region.

The villa is also attached to quite a fine cafe (kavine Grill 7).  The food was very nicely prepared, the service was good and the cost was reasonable.

On the negative side, the bed linen was a little worn and there was a sign stating that we couldn't take towels to the beach.  However, when we mentioned that we had no towels, the maid quickly produced one for our use.     

Hints - If you're in Lithuania during the summer, you shouldn't miss Nida.  It may be a little tricky to get there, but it is worth the bother.  We found that a mini-bus driver charged the same as the public bus from Smiltyne and arrived in half the time.  Also, don't miss renting a bike in Nida (30 litas per day) and bicycling to the beautiful Baltic Sea.  The hike toward Kalingrad through the dunes is also a must, but you should attempt it only at the beginning or end of day as it can get fairly hot.

And very important condition for us - pets enable (with additional charge 5€ day).
Also possibility for outdoor grill.

Curorian spirit 

Hotel Jelita in the center of Nida was quite OK. Rooms were clean, nothing extra. Good beds, a couple of chairs. Breakfast was easily available in a hotel nearby. A good choice for budget travellers. A very helpful receptionist with good English.

A comfortable hotel

Nida has a lot of poor accommodation. This place was ok but rather over priced for what its worth. Small rooms with private bathrooms and a shared kitchen. Friendly staff. But really the bathrooms need proper renovation. Nida is always busy in the summer so the owners don't need to work so hard to keep getting reservations.

We underestimated how busy and expensive it is to stay on the Curonian Spit. We went to Tourist Information in Nida and they were very helpful but the cheapest room available was 85 euros (compared with 50 to 60 in other parts of the Baltics for a higher standard of room.) Our room was clean but very basic, bathroom was across the passage but there was use of a kitchen. Friendly receptionist and situated right in the town centre.

Expensive area to stay

We stayed here three nights. There is really no check-in arrangement. All is done in a minute. Our room was large with a double bed and two single beds that our kids, 7 and 8, utilized.

The house is quit central but away from the road and quit. We also had access to a kitchen that came in handy for breakfast. All in all the house feels very quaint and authentic.

Some things that aren't too good. Our bed was really really squeaky. The shower works fine but I feel it could it be cleaner. The kitchen is large but could be more homey and warm.

Finally, remember that the payment is done in cash.

Quaint house

The service was good, considering that we were in high season and Nida crowded.
Still the rooms could use a little cleaning as you could notice that the bathrooms were "speed-cleaned" and there were plenty of spider webs, dead mosquitos, sand and a thin layer of dust on the floor.
The parking arrangements weren't as easy as foreseen but there was nothing important to add.
Nida (and all Lithuania) was abnormally hot during our stay and it was a bit annoying that every time we would open the window for ventilation and cooler air, the room would be infested with mosquitos. The count went as high as 6 in just a few minutes. A mosquito net on the windows of the rooms on the south side would be a good investment also.

Not so clean

Up, up, upstairs we went to an attic room which was sweltering hot at the end of a long hit sunny day. The beds were soft, the blinds didn't work and the place was full of cobwebs. There was a kettle though, so at least we could make a cup of tea. Avoid this place if you can Nida is a cute town and you will find better elsewhere.

A bit knackered and in need of a clean

+ Nice view from our balcony. Big room.

- 500 narrow stairs to the "penthouse".
- Two guests including us, still the others were placed just next to us, instead of another floor for example.
- Really old furniture. A designer mess.
- The bathroom is almost uglier.
- No way to shut light out properly.
- No A/C, must be a sauna in the summertime.
- Haven't got the receipt we asked for our payment (only cash payment possible).
- WiFi weak coverage some places
- Free parking on the street, until the building next door is done?
- Expensive for what you get, apparently Nida is fancy stuff, but we didn't think so.
