I came on 2012 august friday the 10th at 1.30 pm and booked a single room To the Barouk Palace Hotel . The 2 young girls in the lobby were very friendly. No more room on garden side, so I took the one on the road side and I payed 85$ cash. After 15 mn, no more power it was so hot inside, the road was so noisy and the windows did'nt closed tightly...
I asked the lobby where I could buy ear plugs preparing myself to a terrible night. I came back after half an hour, "what about the power?" I asked...  they told me 5 mn. 1hour later still nothing! I got mad and I went down to the neglected garden closed to a fresh river to work on my computer. An hour later I ran away because of strong diesel gaz smells.
Back to my room with at least aircon. 8.30 pm I complained to the son of the manager on what happened before. He said: "You are in Lebanon my friend" I told him: "ok I'm in Lebanon but I paid 85$ cash for a  half aircon room on a noisy road, so let me pay 30$ and I'll not complain anymore". He sent me to another place located on the quite road that lead to the cedars reserve called "the touristrestaurant".  "WE"LL PROVIDE YOU A QUIET ROOM FOR THE SAME PRICE". The room was quiet and nice, but the manager (the father) asked me 35$ extra...
I told him: "you trapped me! it's unfair!" I complained again, I insisted, he phoned to his soon and shouted on him. (was it a set up? I don't know) 
He told me: " last price: 25$ or you go back to the Barouk Palace Hotel". I'm fed up I said "take your 25$". The WIFI did'nt worked properly! (no WIFI for 110$, thank you guys!)
I had to go to the lobby to plug my laptop direct on the box (fortunately I had my own wire). I spent a good night at least... Beware! avoid this place! and don't trust this people!

Barouk Hotel (not any more Palace)

This property has definitely seen better days, which is a shame as it has huge potential given its location near to the Chouf Cedar Reserve (about a 15 min drive away).  The carpets were stained and the furniture in the communal area was ripped.  The first room we were shown had a falling down curtain and bugs living in the carpet.  We were moved without a fuss to a second room which was much better, but there was no water in the cistern (the cistern was broken so you had to turn on the tap on the wall to manually fill the cistern if you wanted to use it) and there were loose electrical fittings, including IN the shower (the extractor fan)!  The staff were all nice despite working in difficult circumstances and the rooms were a good size and they were clean enough. The breakfast in the morning was adequate although unexciting - arabic bread, laban, conserves, olives and hallumi cheese.  The website shows a swimming pool which we didn't see, and none of the restaurants listed on the website seemed to be serving dinner (or if they were, they were totally empty.  There are other good local restaurants nearby.) When we checked out we had to pay with cash because the  credit card facility wasn't working, which was a nuisance as it used up all our holiday spending money and there was nowhere nearby to draw out more.
