Hotel Kumbe

I've never stayed at the hotel but eat at the restaurant regularly. We order 1-2kg of chicken, ugali, mataha, greens, kachumbari and sometimes chips. The seasoning on the chicken is delicious. This is the one of the best places to sample local food in a local environment. They also deliver if you can get one of the waitresses phone numbers.

Issues - the place is a poorly lit, the food takes over an hour to be served (typical for Mombasa) and they do have a problem with stray cats bothering you as you eat. However, for me this all adds to the local charm of the place.

Shout out to my favourite waitress Mary who puts in orders for us over the phone EVEN WHEN SHE'S NOT IN WORK. Legend.

I stayed in Hotel Kumbe and it is a nice place for a family or for singles. There are a variety of dishes to choose from and music is comforting. The sitting is hidden from the road traffic and therefore it is a quiet place to relax and have a drink. The service is quick depending on what you want and how many you are. There is no swimming which is good because if you really want to swim you better off taking a drive to the beach and enjoy the tide. The shops are within walking distance and if you want much bigger shops it is only 15 minute drive to Mombasa Town. So, it is an ideal place to stay if you are a tourist or a traveler.

Best chicken choma in Mtwapa, maybe Mombasa, possibly the world!

The Place

Hotel Kumbe hides quietly behind a seafood butchery. After the entrance crossbar is jiko. This is where fish can be charcoal grilled!
Then, the entrance to the bar counter, lots of spacious ground for quiet drinking.
The rooms next to the are clean and very affordable.
A small restaurant area serves a variety of dishes...

A budget hotel .The rooms are clean, basically simple, self contained with TV....Ideal for stop overs during travel or if interested to sample the bustling Mtwapa night life before retiring to bed-rather than full board stay. The location is right inside town within short walking distance to supermarkets, eating spots, entertainment places with adequate public transport. Quite a small space though for hanging out your clothes and no shelves to at least place your luggage and stuff...hence my rating as a short visit place.

Large safe parking is a plus though.

Budget hotel in the heart of Mtwapa

I booked some friends on hotel kumbe and its a quite hotel on mtwapa and its a good hotel when u are on budget,clean and security wise nice.it has free wifi but no swimming.Public transport is available outside the hotel on Mombasa Malindi road in plenty.Transport connection is easily available to Mombasa town and historic sites.The area come of life in the evenings in various entertaiment spots around the area.Movements to and from the hotel is controlled hence security is paramount.Bed and  breakfast is served on the hotel premise.

Just needed a place to spend the night and park my car before traveling back to Nairobi.

The price was high just for bed - no breakfast.  Only complain is the cost was double than an equally better budget hotel in Mombasa.  The only thing the other budget hotel lacked was secure parking.  Essentially it was about secure parking for me.

Description of the place; looked like incomplete construction or still a subtle construction site.

Advise is to rate yourself truly so that expectations are not high when one comes over.  There is a lot of and potential for improvement to make it a great place.

Lastly, place yourself on google maps; the maps directed me deep into a 'village in mtwapa' AT NIGHT;  luckily Mombasa has kind and good people even in places that look dangerous

I'm still at hotel kumbe. It's taken me 1hr 30 minutes to be served beef and Ugali. This is my 3rd time here and this always happens. Go if you have all the time in the world. The beef was also chewy. I guess it's famed with delicious fish but... Never again!!!
