life changing place

Excellent location. Make sure to follow that narrow road next to the entrance of the temple. It is next to the tourist boat pier, and depending on your room you might be facing the Amanohashidate. Great staff and hospitality as always. Nice room which were recently renovated. Overall a great experience even for foreigners.

Great location

The garden and ryokan are beautiful. The hosts were so attentive and gracious. Lovely onsen and cosmetics. Charming reading room. The food was wonderful - regional food specialties - bream, mackerel, Spanish mackerel, flounder, prawns, tiny shrimp (grilled, smoked and fresh) and pine juice. A beautiful garden. Truly enjoyed this experience. 

Wonderful food and ryokan

Great location - right by the revolving bridge at the start of the Amanohashidate sand bar and a 5 min walk from the train station. 

Staff didn’t speak English - but we communicated well enough. Rooms are big and have access to a very nice garden. 

The food was excellent. Top notch kaiseki cuisine. 

Amanohashidate ryokan 

After many busy days seeing the sights of Osaka and Kyoto, our “getaway” to Amanohashisate was the comforting stay that we truly relished. And incredible comfort was what we found at Monjusou Shourotei.

The weather was unusually rainy for a July visit, which was a perfect reason to enjoy the luxury of this ryokan’s beautiful onsen and our room’s view of the canal and forestland across the way. 

Another wonderful feature of Monjusou was the staff, who went out of their way to ensure our comfort. They made us feel special and welcomed whenever we came in contact with them. 

We highly recommend Monjusou for adults looking for a unique, relaxing, and lovely getaway from the big cities. 


Beautiful lodgings and location 

I really liked this hotel!

Secluded from city center but this hotel offers us the best of Kyoto, from the best onsen to the beautiful view of the river which was located just behind the hotel and from delicious breakfast to the responsive staffs when we arrived.

We really enjoyed this kind of living in Ryokan and as a traveler I always want to experience what Locals do in their day to day life, and this is what makes me so happy to stay in this hotel.

Whether I will come back to this hotel again? 
Yes, it is for sure!

Amazing Ryokan With Brilliant Onsen

This Onsen is located in a sublime position in the middle of a peninsula with the bay just meters from your room.  The Onsen is well maintained. The staff are gracious, friendly and professional. We stayed 3 nights and had a wonderful experience. We were respectful to our room, to the shared Onsen, and to the staff, as if we were in our own home. So when it came to leave it was disturbing to have the owner treat us like we were common scum. 
This is a elite, expensive Ryokan and therefore we expected to be shown the appropriate courtesy and respect. This was not our experience from the owner.

Rude Owner to guests

I stayed here for three nights in October and am left with with a wonderful souvenir of this Ryokan. Being setup right at the seafront surrounded by a beautifully set garden there is something magic about this place. The hosts are true professionals and very lovely people. 

Highs: 
- Although the Ryokan was fully booked we felt we were the only guests here throughout our stay
- The in-room Kaiseki dinner which is part of the package is composed of six gourmet courses and presented in a unique way. All dishes were explained by our hostess who was charming, professional and immaculate at all times
- The scenery is second to none. Set by the Amano-Hashidate land bridge the location could not be better. The Garden is beautiful and somehow magic
- The Onsen hot spring is small but fine, beautifully setup and clean
- The rooms are typical for a Japanese inn and the bedding is amazingly comfortable compared to other Ryokans
- There are lots of things to do in the area like boat trips in the bay, visits to the Nariai-Ji Temple (with the bell that never rang), the Shinto Shrine, the faraway fisherman's village of Ine etc...
- You can walk around in your Yukata (provided by your hosts) all day long

Lows:
- It's a bit remote. We arrived from Osaka and it is a 3 hour trip by train. This probably also keeps this place special
- Sleeping on tatami mats is not everyone's thing - but can be quite an adventure for others
- Dinner are served fairly early for western standards. Don't be surprised to be asked to be ready for your 6 course meal at 6.30pm - but be prepared to be entertained by an amazing sequel of top notch food for at least 2 hours
- There is no public dining area. All meals are served in your room. So make sure you are in good, cosy company

We stayed three nights and wish it would have been more. Next time.
