The staff are nice and the girl staff is very helpful. They are all also friendly and had the wonderful time drinking with them at the rooftop.

女性のスッタフ(オーナーの彼女かな)が性格悪い。目を合わせてくれないし、ゲストと話す気が無さそう。暗い接客で、仕方なくやってるって感じ。
汚い。枕が臭い。ルームの清掃が治中途半端。
壁が薄い。昭和時代の木造で足音が非常にうるさい。しっかりしてるゲストハウスが沢山あるからここを避けてください。

Do not stay here. The girl in charge is not friendly. She is the owner’s girlfriend and lives there. She clearly does not enjoy interacting with guests and meeting her was not pleasant. It seems like she just likes to live there and does not feel any responsibly to be a pleasant host. The housekeeping is terrible. The place is old and dirty. The sheets and pillow smelled bad. The building is old which means that footsteps are loud. The place is dirt cheap which attracts very dirty people. The pictures on the website are not what the place really looks like. There are endless guest houses in the area where the staff is friendly and attentive to guests. Avoid this one.

I stayed in the Dorm.... every day the room was cleaned and they had free soap and shampoo in the bathroom. Hand sanitizer was always filled up and ready to use. The kitchen was spotless and so the fridge. The roof terrass is a very relaxing place with tables and banks and some hamatts.

Nice place

Super nice owner with awesome rooftop. He is very helpful and is also providing diving courses, which is such a nice combo! 
Sometime BBQ on the rooftoo with other guests and e joy together the awesome weather!
Location is also perfect, if you're interested in taking the ferries...

If you like sharing and knowing different Japanese, it is a good place you could enjoy.

Very convenient and the room rate is quite reasonable!

From the minute I checked in I knew I would like this place. The staff was friendly and helpful. They hooked me up with a dive company, Nova Dive, that was reasonably priced and professional and gave me a nice little room. There was a small shared kitchen and cozy tv room, bathrooms were clean and I never had to wait during the 4 nights I stayed.
And check out Lala, the hotel dog - she is sooo cute

This is very centrally located

This hostel is ok. Don’t expect the same standard as mainland Japanese hostels, although they do have a hairdryer and free shampoo/body wash. 
There was a weird smell of death in our room, I looked out the window and under the mattress but couldn’t find the source. Smelled like a small dead animal. 
The bathroom upstairs smelled like vomit and we discovered it was because someone once had vomited into the cistern of the toilet and hadn’t cleaned it up (orange stains). 

Pros: Free shampoo/body wash, hairdryer, free bike rental (although the bikes are in poor condition), central location, cute dog, cheap laundry facilities (100 yen per wash), hand towels are changed everyday so they are nice and fresh. Nice with rooftop access. People are very social here.

Cons: Odd smells of death and vomit, nasty upstairs bathroom, no free coffee or tea, very thin mattresses and tiny rooms, thin walls - we could hear every sound from the other rooms. People are very social here.

What can I say, this is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in terms of staff, guest interaction, and atmosphere!

The owner, Nao, is a cool dude who used to be a backpacker himself and lived outside Japan. He speaks fluent English, and was therefore a tremendous help for me. Among other things, he helped me book a rental car, day tour and guesthouse on another island.

The lounge on the 3rd floor always seems to have people hanging out. Most evenings, there will be a bottle or 2 or 5 of awamori. Sometimes singing may or may not be involved. The vibe is great; everyone was very engaging. It felt like the opposite of my limited expeirence on mainland Japan; Japanese speaking guests here were all eager to start conversations even when they don't speak a lot of English... I never had to break the ice here!

The actual facilities themselves don't stand out, but they have everything you need and the place is kept clean. There are kitchens, showers, toilets on both floors. 

In the summer, I was told the rooftop patio would frequently have BBQs. We only had one drinking party up there, on a rare rainy-season night when it wasn't actually raining. 

I stayed in the male dorm. It's a bit barebones compared to many other Japanese hostels with the capsule-style beds. This one is just ordinary bunks, but they do have privacy curtains. Wifi is also spotty in the room - best to sit in the lounge for that.  

Don't forget Lala, the cute resident shiba dog! And if you're lucky, the Ishigaki Brad Pitt will make an appearance! (Nao told me not to mention this so as to not raise potnetial guest expectations too high, haha, but too good to not mention)
