We stayed here for one night to experience a traditional Japanese ryokan. We had a private bath on our balcony that overlooked a pond and wooded area. It was very relaxing to open the sliding doors, sit in the bath or on the balcony and hear the birds. I recommend the rooms with private open air baths since the two public onsens were a distance from the ryokan rooms in the main hotel area. We opted for the traditional dinner which had about 10-12 courses and the service in the dining area was great. Since this was our first experience like this, the dining staff did a great job of letting us know what each course was and how we were supposed to eat each even though they didn't speak English and we didn't understand Japanese. The hotel is about a half hour from Himeji station and they have a shuttle bus to pick you up at the station (3:30 pm) and take you back in the morning. There isn't much around the immediate hotel area, so I'm not sure I would stay longer than a night.

Relaxing traditional experience

My husband and I stayed in Yumenoi-an Yuyake Koyake from Feb 21 to 25 (4 nights). You enter through the main hotel (it's a hotel within a hotel, their premium accommodations) then they lead you to your actual checkin location.

Looks: It's very nostalgic. Fireplace, rocking chairs, cute trinkets here and there. It's all very very quaint and idyllic. Relaxing atmosphere from the get go. 

Our Room: We had accommodations on the 2nd floor (checkin floor) and it was overlooking the trees. The room had a tatami receiving area, a separate western bedroom, a toilet near the entryway, a powder room, bathroom, and of course, the wooden outdoor onsen. This was love at first sight! I wanted a wooden bath and they delivered!

The Food: Amazing doesn't cut it. 4 nights of 10 course winter Kaiseki with no dish repeating. It was wow to the nth power. Plating was exquisite, taste was superb! You could not ask for more. By the end of the course, you were always so full! You would eat lobster, crab, tuna, abalone, eel, mackarel, Shark's fin (this one, I don't approve of but it was the ~. ~). We were given 3 types of sake as part of the course and some wine to start off. Dinner often lasted 2hrs and by the time you were done, you can't eat another bite ^^ It was so so good! Breakfast the next day was either Japanese or Western. Also very very good! Fun to eat too because you got to play around cracking your onsen tamagos. There were at least 7 dishes for breakfast and it'd take you an hour to finish. Fruit at the end :)

Service: 5-star service all around especially the restaurant (we spent 3hrs a day there after all). All the ladies and gents were super nice and friendly and always had smiles. We'd say thank you back and forth dozens of times! Can't compliment them enough. These guys are wonderful! <3 shout out to Kazue Imai from the restaurant, she was lovely :)

Price: You'd think it was pricey at first glance but once you put all the meals in and the service, it's actually a great deal! 

Will not hesitate to come back!

Best trip ever!

The ryokan is amazing. Service is "5 star". The room we stayed had the private hot bath but also it is possible to reserve 1h in a big bath private area. 

The food is wonderful. We had the kaiseki menu is incredible. A variate of fresh and delicious food. The breakfast was also very good. They offer western and Japanese choices.

The whole place is very friendly and cosi !

Amazing place 

Recently stayed at this hotel - my feelings are a bit mixed

Pros:
- very polite and friendly staff, both at check-in, shuttle bus service, and restaurant
- nice beautiful hotel grounds with interesting little touches - such as the record room for oldies, nice on site farm that you can walk around, nice tea and coffee available in the lounge area
- dinner was excellent
- shuttle bus service available to and from Himeji station, otherwise you need to take a local bus for more than 30 mins

Cons:
- This ryokan is actually a sister hotel of the adjacent main hotel, almost like a hotel within a hotel that is a nicer and more upscale (hence lot more expensive). However, you still need to share some facilities with the main hotel that is a lot older and geared to the mass public. For example to use the big bath onsen you need to use the onsen facilities at the main building in which is quite old and crowded, also amenities in the main onsen big bath is lacking (no towels, shared hair brush etc)
- individual onsen rooms available at the smaller ryokan for rent, however there is no clean-up in between use
- while this ryokan is newer than the main hotel, there are still signs of aging in various spots (e.g. the washing basin has a lot of moldly stain that is quite unpleasant)

I don't know if I would recommend it. Some of the aspects I really like, some are quite unpleasant. I personally would not return but overall it was not a bad experience
