We had no idea what to expect when we rang the bell at the enormous wooden gates. What we found was ridiculously fabulous! Located a few steps away from the Arena, our room was on the 1st floor of a historic palazzo. There is a bright, airy lounge and breakfast area as you walk in the front door, with large, plump sofas and a small selection of books in different languages. Our room was large and sumptuously appointed, with a huge sofa and a large, comfortable bed. The enormous bathroom was stocked with a range of amenities. The air conditioning worked a treat! Due to Covid-19, breakfast was served around the corner at the Hotel Bologna (which we think owns the Residenza). This was perfectly organised and generous: breads, meats, cheeses, cereals, etc. Cooked breakfast available for an extra €5. All of the staff were simply charming. Valet car parking can be arranged with advanced notice. Someone whisks your car away and returns it on the dot. Great service, not cheap, but not extortionate. My only issue - and this is a bugbear of mine - was the number of tiny, very bright LEDs in the room. Altogether there were 7 or 8 shining brightly all night long: 2 on each side of the bed for the light switches; 1 on the TV; 2 by the entry door light switches; one overhead - no idea what for; and another blipping all night long for the smoke detector. I carry a little roll of black electrical tape to blot them all out (apart from the detector, obvs). If you are light-sensitive, I suggest you do the same. The other issue is that the Residenzia overlooks a city recycling point, which is used until late by bars/restaurants tipping bottles in. And then these are collected relatively early in the morning. Apart from that a very quiet location, even tho in the middle of the city. Despite these small inconveniences, we LOVED the place and will definitely go back. Highly recommended.
