Hotel Pension Rechtenthal

First, I will say that yes, the owner/manager is an unfriendly and mostly (but not always) unhelpful jerk, as many have attested before me. Second, BUT!! But but but, if you personally don't need to get a warm and fuzzy welcome, recommendations on best local places, and in general a lot of support from Reception, ignore the guy, because this place provides EXCELLENT value for money, in a fabulous location in the quaint Tyrolean town of Termano, on the Strada del Vino, with a rich, varied and delicious breakfast, spotlessly clean, spartan rooms, nice balconies with great views, an ample swimming pool and garden, friendly staff (manager excepted of course), and great, firm beds and well-functioning wifi. We (married couple and university aged daughter) spent a couple of nights there in early August, stayed in Room No. 7, which was on the first floor facing east (so the sun streamed into the room pretty early). We paid 100 euros a night bed and breakfast. Room and bath were small but adequate. Balcony provided a nice view, but was over the breakfast room. That wasn't a problem for us, but if you want to sleep late in silence get a room on a higher floor. The only negative worth mentioning, other than the manager (who seriously is a jerk - at breakfast one morning he said (in Italian) to the wonderful, helpful and very friendly waitress "Non sai lavorare, non hai cervello" - "You don't know how to work; you have no brain," within earshot of guests; are that there is no AC (the days we were there were cool, but I imagine it would be tough sleeping when temps get above 30°). We spent time walking up to the nearby Church of St. Jacob (good exercise) which provided amazing views, and exploring the many wineries along the Strada del Vino. We also visited Bolzano and the Via dei Dolomiti and the Sella Pass from here. If you need warm and fuzzy and welcoming, look elsewhere. For the price, this place delivers good value.
