The area is wonderful. The houses are nice, but there is constantly really noisy people. We stayed there for five days, and the first two evenings there was a baby crying non stop. I believe the walls are made out of paper, because you can clearly hear everything from the next house. Also,a group of children were with really loud music in the swimming pool, playing football (I was reading a book in the BBQ area and they almost hit me), and walking in the swimming pool area with shoes (it is clearly not allowed).It looks like those kids were friends or family of the owner, because they just came, they stayed in the swimming pool, and after few hours they left.  It is a shame, with this beautiful area, people comes expecting a bit of peace, well this is not the place. 
The houses are not well equipped. It is annoying to be buying salt and pepper for few days, a totally waste.
There is a washing machine for dishes, but you only get 2 tablets. This is a bit funny when you come for five days and with 4 persons. 
The apartment we stayed had 3 bedrooms, but when you try to shower, after the second person, the rest had to shower with cold water... 
Still,the area is beautiful, and the guy taking care of the garden was ultra friendly and helpful. This could be an amazing place if they put a bit more of effort.

Not a good choice to relax

I haven't seen all the rooms/apartments at Il Chicco d'Oro, but the one we shared with friends had three bedrooms and two bathrooms, complete with a large size living room and attached covered terrace. It was a part of a large duplex, too, so I'm guessing the other half is just as well appointed and comfortable.
The place is very nice and clean, the owners go out of the way to make it comfortable. Luca even brought us some fresh eggs, still warm and straight from under a hen!
All apartments and houses are on private land - there's a stretch of a private road connecting them up, and you can't help feeling you've become an integral part of the village.There's a small swimming pool complete with sunbeds and umbrellas and a playground for little kids (a swing and a slide). 
All around you are fields, vineyards and olive trees: the owners proudly offer to sample their own produce. We most enjoyed well chilled white wine. The looks of the nondescript bottle are misleading, and inside is a well balanced and crisp white, perfectly refreshing after a long day spent driving from one place to another...
Speaking of driving: Il Chicco d'Oro is 5 mins from Autostrada, so getting to Pisa, Lucca, Firenze and other places is a breeze. Or take a picturesque route through Massarossa and other towns, strewn link beads along the winding regional road.
And when you get back enjoy a barbeque on the terrace (just don't forget to buy coals!)
