Really welcoming and charming family who were very hospitable and helpful. Son -in law speaks really good English and otherwise with gestures and hilarity we had no problem with making ourselves understood.  A brilliant and peaceful place to stay if you have a car as only 4km from gorgeous Florence and beautiful countryside surrounding it.  The bed was comfortable, the room and ensuite up-to date and very clean.  The breakfast was typical Italian with fruit juice, cereal, home made cakes, fresh fruit, lovely coffee and Renzo even toasted fresh bread for us to eat with home made jam - yum! Would definitely recommend Il Sotto Di Torrino!

a B and B close to everything but far enough away from the madding crowd

After a long drive with hairpin turns, switchbacks, and snow, we arrived outside of Florence. We were looking for a place to stay on our way south. It was dark, we were tired, and we don't speak Italian. Well, we saw a hotel sign, or so we thought, up this dimly lit road. We stopped at a little grocery store-eatery to ask about local accommodations. The young owner with the help of an American woman living in the area (and fluent in Italian) located a B&B 'just up the hill'. Thirty minutes later including a return to the store to get new directions we arrived at this lovely hillside B&B.

We had purchased wine, cheese, bread, and salami. The owners immediately set a table for us and brought out wine glasses and opener. They refused our offer to join us for a wine wanting to give us our privacy. 

Their son-in-law came into the dining room, and he spoke fluent English. We had a great conversation with him. Then his wife appeared with a little baby. They had just had twins six weeks previously! To make a long conversation short, it was wonderful meeting them.

The room was lovely and quiet with an attached bathroom. And, the views were beautiful. Talk about truly feeling you were experiencing an Italian villa.

Breakfast was continental with good coffee and local preserves - both excellent. Furthermore, the owner had asked us when we wanted it, so it was all on own schedule. Talk about service.

We left early the next morning saying this was one of those surprises (we didn't even know where we were... just on a hill outside of Florence...) which make a vacation memorable.

We will treasure our brief time at this B&B, thankful for this family's gracious and warm welcome for two weary American travelers who landed late at night on their doorstep.

A time to treasure

Thank you Nada e Renzo. The trip was beautiful and also thanks for helping us with restaurants and any others. Sorry for my Italian. But my friend translated for me. Your house is a very nice one especialy for foreigners a curiosity, a little piece of history. I will offer your house to my friend in Hungary as well. Also your olive oil is very nice. :-)

A nice hospitality

A great, rustic setting in the Florence countryside. The terrace room is an ideal place to stay, relax and admire the views over the city. The owners are extremely friendly and helpful, although a little spoken Italian helps when trying to communicate. They are both very accommodating and will even book the local restaurant for you. You are also free to leave stuff in their fridge or even use the washing machine. And there is a free wireless internet connection. There's now a pool which looks a little strange above ground, but is still good to cool down on a hot day. This is a typical italian family home, not a plush hotel. Provided you are happy with a simple place to stay, you will have a good time.

A lovely setting

We had a nice stay for 2 nights in the terrace room. The room was clean and the bed comfortable. Originally we wanted to stay one night, but the place was so relaxing and romantic that we decided to stay one night longer.The Landlord couple nice, helpful and hospitable. The breakfast was lovingly prepared with selfmade jam and a good coffee.
Thank you, we will come back whenever we are able to do so.
The place is a bit far away from center of Florence but with a car no problem!
