We choose the hotel based on the gorgeous website pictures. The reality is similar but not exactly. 

It's not exactly a hotel. The are two parts to it. One has the small lobby, pool and some rooms and the part we were in is a walker upper in which each apartment was turned into a suite. 
+ nice pool (smaller than appears on site) 
+ nice fixtures and furniture 
+ staff was trying to be helpful 

- poor maintenance, some broken fixtures 
- no fridge in one room 
- no safe or utensils in the kitchen 
- breakfast at a restaurant 5 minute walk. 

My biggest issue is the disparity between what the hotel claims on the site and reality. Not nice!

Attemp at luxury, needs a fix

We had a good enough time staying here because it was fun to sit on the balcony and watch all the crazy people go by) and lots of close calls with traffic, but the place itself is bizarre. First, it is not a lodge. Second, it is hardly a hotel - there isn't any service to speak of. There was no pool. The Jacuzzi bathtub didn't work. There was nobody who could help with anything - nobody even knew where the major attractions were. There is nobody at the reception after 10:00 P.M. and the place can feel spooky. But basically, don't stay here! The price is high and there are no amenities, and the room was dirty, as several other reviewers have noted.

Is this really a hotel?

My wife and I had booked a suite for two.
The first evening I filed the following complaints.
- The kitchen, which should be fully equiped had only one glas and one cup. No plates or other utensils. The stove in the kitchen didnt work. No pots available. The faucet loose. Refrigator hadnt been cleaned for long and was covered in dust.

- Living room. Several bulbs in lamp in ceiling out of order. Lamp not cleaned from tape, probably from former party. Two couches broken and impossible to sit in. TV-set and decoder box - cables in a mess. Instructions for TV only in Hebrew. (We asked for English instructions but didnt get any.) Watch on wall broken. Windows so dirty I could write on them using finger. View from window showing nothing but a junkyard.

- Bedroom. Mattress to small for bed. Bedlight bulbs broken. Switch for bedlight unable to reach from bed. Bar stools (in bedroom) broken. TV-box mount on wall broken, now standing on floor. No English instruction.  No wardrobe to hang clothes in.

-Bathroom, No hairdryer. (When asking for hairdryer in reception they dont understand!) Mirror at sink so low you cant use it (if  you need to see your face).  No light in bathroom. We had to bring a lamp from sleeping room. That lamp also lacked bulbs. WC, lacks holder for toiletpaper. There is a whirlpool. No instructions given. Part of pool broken, shower handle on wall broken.

- Room doesnt have safe. The hotel reception doesnt have routins for handling valuables.

- Reception desk. Staff unable to speak English. They ask me to use their computer and Google translate. Didnt work as computers keyboard had several broken keys!

- Hotel manager. Doesnt speak English, she maybe understands some but cant reply.

- Hotel entrance door. Cant close and blows open every now and then.

- Wifi, only in public areas, none to be found in room.

- Staircase, at times all dark, had to use cellphone to light our way.
- One morning no hot water. The fuse had to be replaced at the reception. (No phone in room)
- Billiard table in dining room - broken.

- No plan in room showing how to evacuate in case of fire.

Hotel is located very nicely in Safed close to artist quarters and old town.

From really bad to almost acceptable

+ Perfect bed
+ Friendly staff
+ Many museums and good restorans near the hotel within walking distance
- Out of fix furniture. (You can see it on my photo).
- There is no light at the public pool at the evening. 
- Sleep was not so good - loud noise from the street. Man

It was a little dirty, and a lot of out of fix

My boyfriend and I booked to stay at Atara Lodge for the Jewish holidays over a month in advance because we knew that it is the busiest time of year and places get booked up very fast. Two weeks before our planned trip, we received a cold email from the manager of this hotel to tell us our reservation was cancelled due to a problem in the room. We were given no further explanation and no offer of compensation, while all the other good places in the area were booked up. 
UNPROFFESIONAL, RUDE, AND INEXCUSABLE!!!!
