If your looking for 5 star forget it, great to put your head down for the night, basic room with shower toilet sink TV on the wall, the manager at the Paragon Bar also runs the hostel and looks after you well here with tea coffee milk sugar etc 
Great for cooked breakfasts too. 
Lovely friendly staff, good home cooked food served in The Paragon Bar plenty to see and do in Skibbereen town band on every night at 9pm in the Paragon Bar!
We been looked after well from the hostel!
Would certainly come back again!

Good value 

Oh, mixed! We were in Room 1. 
On the one hand, it really was dirty, as other reviewers have said, and I'm talking actual real dirt not picky looking for it dirt; extensive black mould in the shower, plus a decomposing carton of milk on the window sill which smelt just AWFUL. Also the bed had actually split and was propped up with a plank. So you just hope it holds the night and the person on the lower bunk doesn't get flattened... The view was onto a back alley occupied by a persistent ventilator which sent an aroma of chip fat up into the room. The wet room has a tap which shoots water unstoppably all over everything, including you if you are in there. There is a central lounge with a kettle but no way of filling it up there, which makes the tap problem above more annoying.  There's no towels. Or soap. Or kitchen. 
BUT....it was very cheap for a private room, you don't have to leave during the day, the location is super central and it's quiet at night. It's above the Paragon Bar which has fairly decent live music 7 nights a week, and which doesn't really affect the hostel.  The bed was comfortable. The shower was a good temperature and force. The manager does appear to be drunk mostly but is friendly. It's got free wifi, so if you don't like it you can look for something else....
I would actually go again. But I'd take a shedload of cleaning fluid. And possibly a sleeping bag.

Wash me, clean me, mend me, then wash me again!!! And I'll be lovely I promise...

Stayed over the weekend, we had 2 rooms 4 + 2 each with a bathroom. Staff was friendly and approachable. Good for the price with electronic keys. The beds weren't fantastic, which slight stains on the sheets. There's a large carpark nearby which is free. 

Also we were lucky to be there when it's skibbereen's 50th anniversary celebration. A live band playing right outside the hostel till midnight, the whole town felt so alive with young kids dancing and of course a lot of drinking going on.

Stayed 2 nights

Room was nothing like on the website. Dark and outdated. Very little effort made by the staff to try accommodate us to move to another room despite offering to pay to upgrade to a larger room. Overall very disappointed after what was a fabulous drive up the coast.

It was a smelly room, dirty bath, and we did the check in with a drunken staff. In the night I got ichy from the bedclothes. The hostel is located in the centrum and above a nice bar. But my advice for you: Pay some euros more and get an other place to stay.

Bad experience!

Ive been travelling around a lot with work for the last 15 year and have seen some hell holes but ive never checked out of a place without staying a night until i arrived here. It is beyond bad. My room had an overwhelming smell of piss that hit me like  a punch in the nose as soon as I entered. The bed was the noisiest thing I ever lay on. The room was freezing and the ancient heater in the corner was broken. There was mould all pver the place and dampness on the bed clothes. The shower water flowed out onto the already stink bedroom carpet. There was no twels or toilet paper. To say the place should be knocked would be too kind. You cant use the fact its cheap as an excuse for substandard conditions. I knew it was safe to lie on the bed as the room was too cold for any disease to live in. AVOID AVOID AVOID
