I am a pilot that stops in Iqaluit, several times a month. This is my go to hotel. It’s fairly quiet, has the best mattresses and bedding in town. The best restaurant in Iqaluit, is located in the hotel! That means half the year, you aren’t going outside at minus 40 and getting the best food in town. Try the Arctic char!
 I have to mention the staff. Both the restaurant and front desk are very nice people. I guess it is a prerequisite to work there. 
 Oh yeah, the only beer and wine store, is 40 meters away. 🤠

The rooms were clean, comfy beds with soft pillows and cosy duvet. We hiked the pass so on return we appreciated this even more and the showers were always  hot . We had to stay extra nights due to ice fog and although they were booked they let us know immediately when rooms became free and could not have been more helpful in trying to accommodate us all ( group of 8) Noreen in particular kept us updated .  All staff were polite and friendly. We were ground floor , all bathrooms have a step up into them. Big beds. The restaurant served absolutely delicious food , ( Arctic char and lamb was fantastic!)…yes it is expensive but everything is flown in and you are in Nunavut. It is very close to the airport.

I stayed four nights at the Discovery. It is as a smaller single story hotel. The room is was fine, clean, and hot water. The bed was very comfortable. The restaurant was very good but expensive. Definitely a fine dining experience in Iqaluit.

The Discovery Hotel is easily one of the top hotels in Nunavut. Unlike practically all accommodations in the territory, you could almost be fooled into thinking you are in southern Canada while staying here, if you ignore a few giveaways. All staff (almost entirely francophone) were friendly and helpful. The front entrance and hallways are all very nice, and my room was fantastic. Clean, large, and comfortable. Shower worked great, and the TV had a decent selection of channels. However, much like Iqaluit itself, as hard as the Discovery might try to belie it's Nunavut roots, this is still Nunavut. The wifi is terrible, even worse than any small town Co-op Nunavut hotel I've stayed at, and was barely useable during my stay there. Expect to pay at least $300 a night, which is slightly above average for the territory. Prices at the on site restaurant are also high even for Nunavut. I would certainly try to stay here again the next time I'm in the "big city."

I enjoyed my stay here.   Check in and out was a bit slow but no big deal.   The room is ok the smaller size but I liked the coziness, it was cold out!    Some nice artistic touches.   I really liked the lounge area with the big tv.  It is good for waiting for people or hanging out outside your room.   It was quiet enough for me although you can hear things.  I am a light sleeper and it didn’t affect me. I wish you could control lights from the bed...maybe you can and I just didn’t figure it out.  Will definitely stay here again.   It is a location you can walk to a few things from.  Adjacent restaurant was super for breakfast.   Thanks!

Nice stay at Discovery

One of the best in the territory

Very nice cozy rooms

Room was nice, a good size and it was clean.  There was a nice desk area for anyone needing to do some work.  The shower head was missing (but we understand it can take awhile to get supplies) so we had a bath instead.  We requested a bay view room and although we faced that direction we were on the first floor overlooking the road and another building.  There was no mini fridge or microwave in the room.  Customer service was great leading up to the trip.  I received very quick responses to questions.  At the hotel we always had to wait for someone to come to the front desk.  If the cost was less I would give it a better rating, but I expected more.

Good but I expected more.

Rooms a littke aged. Wifi terrible. TV would not work and party next door made it difficult to sleep but staff are friendly helpful.  The restaurant is amazing. The char the caribou all great. Breakfast too lots of fresh fruits.

Great Food

Don't be tricked by the ratings. The ratings are high because the Restaurant is the best in Iqulait. But, the hotel accommodations are extremely poor and the management is condescending and extremely dismissive.- and definitely that guest-focused. Completely unprofessional and full of excuses, blaming guests for "complaining".
The managers show NO pride in the establishment and really don't care.
- ripped and torn dirty chair, a broken window that didn't close and no net (first floor), no fridge, filthy room carpet, etc.
And the wifi is slow and useless.  They said it's like that in Nunavut, however everywhere else I went, the wifi was fine. no issues.

FYI- the front desk and restaurant staff were excellent, the reason I stayed the 3 days I did. I'm at another real hotel, comparable rates and not having any of those issues.

overpriced and disappointing "hotel"

WARNING!  This "hotel" operated like a "boarding room". Terrible.

If you are a women and will be staying at this hotel with your family make sure that you are not on your womens monthly cycle and accidentally stain a little the sheets otherwise the father of a little girl(s) will be accused of raping their own child and be taken to the family services and hospital WITHOUT asking their guest of their concerns first. The staff at discovery doesnt realise what they put our girls through. Very traumatizing and painful to have seen them scared, lost, confused when they were taken by commplete strangers to the hospital and have their panties be taken off for check up. TRAUMATIZING. we are still hurt by it. We were hurt not only us but everyone around us. Its concernimg, i wonder if they do that to inuit especially now that medical travelers now stay there.
