We had 2 rooms. Both bedrooms and kitchen areas were well equipped. Very comfortable and clean rooms in a perfect location. There was parking on street right in front. Nice spot to bring in the New Year!

Stayed here for 5 nights in June. What a great place! Gunnar the owner of the buildings is so nice and helpful. Simon his assistant greeted us the day we landed and gave us great tips. Highly recommended!!!

Amazing location!!

Have stayed at the same place twice in the trip. As always the place was impeccable. It is neat, clean and with many amenities : hair dryer, heater water in bathroom, kettle, toaster, microwave, coffee maker, towels, face towels, WiFi, streamlined check in or check out, food like milk, curd, tea bags, salt, pepper, oil, muesli, hot chocolate and so on.. If you're lucky, past tenants may have kindly left pasta, cornflakes, rice and many other food items. Gunnar and his helper have also kept Iceland tour guides and Reykjavik city guides throughout the place. There is a small TV in the common area on the floor too. The bathroom is inside the room only and is completely private. Would totally recommend the place for stay in Reykjavik near shops and the main restaurants area. All sightseeing points are within 10-15 minutes walking distance too.

Nice homely place with private bathroom

Simple one bed apartment did just what we needed. Clean and tidy, this is located a stone's throw from the town centre, so really handy but quiet at night. 
Owner and housekeeper were really helpful, happy to let us in a bit early and to store luggage. If you are looking for a good base then this is a safe bet.

Lovely owner, great location

This is my second trip to Reykjavik and both trips stayed at Gunnar's House of Spirits.  Very centrally located on a quiet street away from the buzz of the center square and downtown streets.  Gunnar is a pleasure to deal with -- incredibly responsive and helpful.  Flights from the east coast arrive at 6:15am and Gunnar was good about accommodating our needs.  Hotels, like EVERYHING in Reykjavik, are incredibly expensive.  House of Spirits may not be the fanciest nor the hippest, but it is an excellent alternative for those who are willing to compromise for real value.

Very basic, good price, great location

We never met the host, so all the comments about how lovely he is, I can't confirm.  The room was adequate and the location very good.  The pillows could be improved, but the beds was comfortable and for the price, I'd stay there again.  It was quiet and convenient. , and there was coffee and breakfast in the kitchenette.  I must say, the communication from the host was great, but I was a little surprised that he had charged my credit card for the room before we arrived, when our booking indicated we could pay upon arrival.
