I visited Casa D'ionio with trepidation after my full payment was taken twice and it took 2 months with the help of Booking.com to get the extra payment refunded. Upon arrival, I did however get the room I requested at the front of the property facing the church (room 23). Views from this room are excellent and include the sea and the mountains behind the village. As the property is situated on the Main Street expect some noise from the daily life of the village but the views and proximity to shops, bars and restaurants balance this out. 

The reception is normally manned between 8am to noon and the receptionist is very polite and professional. Outside of these hours there is an emergency telephone number available. During the Covid crisis, periodic cleaning of the room is optional and you are asked to confirm your choice by signing a disclaimer. I chose to do my own cleaning and was provided with all the necessary towels and bedding for my stay. Some cleaning products were available from the small cupboard on the 2nd floor but anything extra needed (bleach etc) could be purchased cheaply from the supermarket less than 50 metres away. Any additional bedding or towels could be requested from reception. 

Room 23 is a room for 2/4 people and the second double bed is on a mezzanine accessible via a wooden staircase which is quite steep so not recommended for anyone with movement issues. There was sufficient pans, plates and cutlery but only one hot plate so making anything other than a one pan meal was difficult. There was also no cups. Hot water was available throughout my stay and the shower cubicle rather than a curtain was a bonus.

My booking (via booking.com) included breakfast which is provided by the excellent Old Village restaurant below the property. Plenty of choice, good portions and excellent service.

Free wifi is available but the signal was intermittent in the room.

I would consider rebooking in future if a similar deal was available.

25 night stay

Host not responding to request for hairdryer and lack of hot water in apartment after several messages via the emergency WhatsApp number, also hanging up the phone to booking.com when we reported problems to them. We had to take a cold shower or no shower for the majority of the days we were there, host saying lies about resolving matters and offering refund for problems, he NEVER contacted us at all, dangerous stove (exposed cables), no fire equipment or smoke alarm, no clothes dryer, no oven, no toaster, no kettle (all of which were advertised on the booking page and confirmation. No 24 hour reception, no concierge! Guests smoke in the apartments, on balcony and in courtyard despite booking page saying no smoking throughout. Totally inadequate kitchen for self catering, lack of crockery, utensils and kitchen facilities, Kitchen a bit dirty, no dustbin in kitchen, no regular change of towels (we had to ask). I could go on and on, nothing much is truthful on the booking.com page.

After providing this review on the accommodation’s own page the management responded as follows, I will put my own comments in response to this feedback in brackets: 

Dear Mrs. Marie, thank you very much for your feedback during your stay with us. We are surprised by this review since all issues were solved during your stay! 

(NO ISSUES other than receiving a hairdryer were resolved, the host ignored all our text messages about lack of hot water, they didn’t repair or replace damaged, dangerous or missing items in the kitchen.  They told booking.com that they had resolved issues, when I told booking.com they had NOT, they said they would offer a partial refund then reported to booking that we had come to a mutual agreement....we HADN’T received ANY communication from the host so this is IMPOSSIBLE!  Hot water was linked to solar so no sun, no water, if there was an immersion heater then it didn’t work!  They said they would send an engineer but nobody came to our room and the water remained cold).

We were in constant communication with booking in order to find the best solution for your demands.

(They we’re hanging up on booking.com - I have emails to prove this from booking.com, they did eventually speak to booking after a translator in booking was found, but they lied about everything).

Everything you mention is provided by us and we do apologize if we weren't able to satisfy your needs. 

(I don’t believe bare cables on the cooker is acceptable this is a dangerous situation)

We are self-catering accommodation, not a hotel which, as you may know, we do not offer 24/7 reception & linen & towel changes, are only twice a week! Maybe next time you book your holiday you will be aware of the difference. 

(Website advertised 24 hour reception and concierge, I have screenshots.  We only received clean towels once during the week and only after asking the cleaner who apparently didn’t have master keys for the rooms so had to catch us in!  We were unable to use the self catering kitchen as it was DANGEROUS and had none of the fire safety equipment advertised ie smoke alarm and fire extinguisher).

Lastly, all our rooms are smoke-free but guest are more than welcome to smoke on the balcony which is outside! 

(Lies again! Guests were smoking in the rooms (you could smell it in the corridor outside our room) and they were smoking outside reception, ashtrays were provided.  Accommodation stated non smoking THROUGHOUT, again misadvertisement).

We will take into consideration your feedback & we hope next time you visit you will enjoy our beautiful island!

(Your island is indeed beautiful but I do not believe that management have the capacity to acknowledge any feedback, they are unresponsive to calls for assistance when at the accommodation and everything they state is lies)

* Final note I have received a 70% refund from booking.com, who clearly believed my story, especially since it is validated by lots of photographs.  I would warn others about the poor customer service here and the potentially dangerous situation of their kitchen equipment!

Lying management and misadvertisement.

Booked these apartments in November 2018 for 14 nights, when the credit card statement arrived noticed I had been charged twice. One payment was more than the original price. Emailed the provider, but received no response. Took Booking.com two months to resolve. Booked a room with sea view, had a room that overlooked a restaurant kitchen with a yard that resembled a tip. Smell of cooking in the evening and the clattering of dishes every morning at 7am. No sea in view. On the first day had to wash the balcony with soapy water as it was filthy. Day six had to ask for clean linen and towels. Had to empty the sanitary bin in the toilet myself during the whole stay. Day 9 asked for the room to be serviced, was only left clean towels. Found a cleaning coboured on floor 2 and cleaned the bathroom myself. One change of bedding in 2 weeks. Only had occasional hot water to shower and twice had no water at all. Have stayed in skala many times over 20 years and appartments are basic, but have never had to do the house keeping..not what I go on holiday for. Was in room 21, room 11 also has the same view.on departure was asked to pay city tax, but this was already in included in my payment, so please check. Would never go back.

DON'T BOOK

Please do not listen to these awful reviews. My friend & I stayed here for a week July 2019 & I have only great things to say . The lady Soula is so lovely , kind and helpful . Our room is basic but very clean , the beds are very comfy and the white cotton linen is immaculate ,the water is hot ! So many reviews say  only cold water , this is not true .Our room & bedding was cleaned every other day & clean towels every day . The location is the best , it’s in the Main Street opposite the lovely church and next to 2 bakery’s which are superb , also the restaurant downstairs 😀 the street is full of beautiful bars , restaurants with amazing food , a village feel.The beach is a few mins away, and most of the big hotels opposite the beach in-courage you to use their pools , we just bought a drink or some food there .so all in all I would defiantly come here again , it’s peaceful , nice quiet nights sleep yet in the hub of things .Skala is wonderful and so is this lovely little Casa & Soula X

Casa d Ionio

Booked an apartment at Casa D' Ionio in Skala, Keffalonia for week of 6th of June via Booking.com which included free cancellation. We cancelled the booking well within this period but the full payment had already been taken. We contacted Booking.com who looked into our concern and informed us a full refund from the operator had been processed and would appear back in our account within 15 business days, it did not. We contacted our bank and their disputes team had to get involved and they have given us our money back whilst they pursue the owners. It was £385 so quite a bit. Our advice to anyone thinking of booking this holiday is DO NOT they can't be trusted.

Do not stay here, no
Management of studios, could not contact owner.  No hot water, toilet bin not emptied for 4 days. Electrical plugs tapes by wire unsafe. Choose somewhere else in Skala will not use these ever again.

The premises is in a great location on the Main Street with all Amenities on your door step. The room was clean and tidy however it is not adequate for self catering. We had one knife, a chipped coffee mug no kettle,no hairdryer and worse of all no hot water! These things were advertised as being available.
Due to the weather being cold the water was cold as it would appear it is solar powered. We did try to ask the people running the place if there was a thermostat but no reply, no receptionist, no staff, no communication -it was very poor! We had to ask for clean towels on day 5 of 7 By chance seeing a
Cleaner. 
If you can get by with cold water and don’t want to be self catering this is ideal purely due to the locations. 
Skála and kefalonia are beautiful and well worth a visit , the people are lovely and very helpful. I’d return to the resort in a flash but not this accommodation 

Great location-poor facilities and NO hot water

My husband Tamas Komlos made the reservation on booking.com for August 2019 and he had the option to cancel the room for free. During the reservation, he provided the card details and the pre-authorization was made in December. Short after that he cancelled the reservation and still the money was not returned (and it is almost 250 euro!!) . We contacted you, we contacted several times booking.com and still no money back to us. We asked the bank for help and raised a chargeback, but I have to tell you people first time with such polite people as the Greek people are, I would not expect to find the stealers!! You should be really ashamed of yourself. I will let everywhere where I just can what you have done and how did you cheat.

It is very comfortable for 2 person. We had sea view from our balcony(room 25). You can cook in room if you want to our you can go to restaurant next to apartments. It is in main street and near beach. 

Accommodation

We are a family of 4, and we've rented 2 rooms in July of this year at Casa D' Ionio. Both of our rooms were located right next to a kitchen that was located to the next door restaurant, as well as next to a bakery, so the only thing we could see from our balcony was the above mentioned kitchen. The noise was also a HUGE problem, since the dishwasher from the kitchen worked all night long and we could hear it directly in our apartment. Next to the apartments in them self. The easiest thing to notice was the smell coming from our bathrooms, it smelled of sewage especially in the early mornings. The shower head in the bathroom was broken, so the water was gushing everywhere. The kitchen was rather small and outdated. The stove was one hot plate that used approximately 20 minutes to cook up something as simple as water. The air conditioner was not free of charge, something thats relatively usual, but the weird part was the the AC could only be used when we were in the room, since the owner didn't have insurance, so if something happened with the AC we would have to pay everything. The light bulb in the main area was broken and it took the staff 3 days to change it, even though we repeatedly complained about it.  The WiFi is the worst I have seen, and was completely useless. Shortly said we were highly disappointed and we are never coming back again!
