Guesthouse Vavitsas

Meteora is an exceptional place on earth and staying at Vavitsas made it as an unforgettable experience. 
Vavitsas is on the foothills of the rocks in the quiet village of Kastraki... at the walking distance of St.Nicholas monastry. 
The receptionist was very helpful and was so kind enough to order food delivery for dinner. He also showed me how to use the coffee-maker so that I can make coffee whenever I want (something I enjoy during holidays). The guesthouse & room were so clean and the balcony had an awesome view of the entire valley. 
I can't stop thinking of coming back to Meteora and staying again at Vavitsas.

A cozy guesthouse with clean and spacious rooms and Meteora view (only stayed one night). Comfortable bed and we got a room with two balconies. Ammenities were adequate and location is good, at the end of the city, so your the last to join the tour bus (if visiting Meteora and I'm sure you are) and the first to hop off.

My wife and I stayed for 3 nights whilst visiting Meteora.  If you want all the mod cons of a hotel then Vavitas is not for you, but if quaint and quiet, with endless free coffee and cookies and excellent conversation with the hotel manager Katerina, then it comes Highly Recommended.

Vavitas is located on the main road leading yp to the monasteries.  Whilst it only has car parking for 2 or 3 cars, it only has 7 rooms ad there is plenty of on street parking adjacent to it as well as some rough ground about 50 metres down the hill, so no problem.

The rooms as well furnished in an older style.  My wife said it had "a woman's touch"  As it was chilly during our stay the heating was on and kept us well and truly snug.  

The guest house doesn't provide food, but free coffee, tea and cookies are freely available all day.  No need to drink anywhwere else!! 

Reception is only open from 2-10 daily, so no chance of an early arrival, that said we arrived around 3.30 so not an issue.  On day of departure, you are requested to deposit the romm key at reception!  Very trusting!

If and when ny wife and I return to Meteora, we would definately stay at Vavitas again.  And if you are travelling from Britain, you will be especially welcome, as Katerina loves to speak English and we were one of the very few Brits that have stayed!!  We Loved It!

I mention the toothbrushes because they were quite nice and my own was getting a bit ugly.  Additionally, they provide slippers to wear which I think is also another sign that they care about their guests.  No breakfast, but plenty of coffee in the morning.  KATERINA will hopefully be the one to greet you upon arrival.  She is so energetic and welcoming and will answer any questions you might have.  She even calmed me when I got a parking ticket in Kalambaka. I was smiling after talk.

The location in Kastraki is superior to nearby Kamabaka where you might get parking tickets because you cannot read the signs that a meter is somewhere on the street.  Kalambaka also lacks the charm of Kastraki. Just minutes from Kalambaka, you will find that Kastraki has some very nice restaurants within walking distance of Guesthouse Vavitsa.  We drove past it when we first arrived so, look for Vavitsa Restaurant and then it is just past that a bit on the right. The most noticeable sign says BABITSA.

The guest house is just along the road leading to the dramatic rock formations and monasteries.  All you have to do is drive up the street to reach each of them.  There are some views from your guesthouse windows or small balcony but some view from room 3 is blocked by trees.  Never mind, we did not really care because we were not here to sit at the guesthouse.

Everything was very clean.  The beds were reasonably comfortable.  There is a small refrigerator.  The price is very reasonable and I would recommend to all who like calm, welcoming, and pleasant (if not luxurious so you can eat more souvlaki) accommodations.

You get a clean comfortable room with shower. The hosts are very welcoming and there is a lovely cool front porch where you can sit and relax. The rooms are right in the village at the foot of Meteora, just 10 mins drive to Megalon Meteoron monastry. There is no breakfast provided but there are cookies, Turkish delight, water and coffee  in the downstairs lounge

When we tried to rate our stay at booking, we discovered that the owner canceled our booking 

Terrible rooms and service 

As a frequent traveller to Greece (20 years) I tried to make reservation for 1 night (€ 30,00) directly to the guesthouse. By Booking.com and other sites is a creditcard is needed. In Holland it is not so common to have a credit- or debitcard like in the UK or USA. The respond of the guesthouse was rude. They did not want to believe me and they do not accept reservations without creditcard cause of risk of no show. No show while I have bought my tickets and made reservation for my rental car and organised my whole holiday!? They do not read personal emails, they have this policy and thats it! I have never had such a bad experience in Greece with the reservation of a accomodation. It is clear that some people do not know 'filotimo' anymore.
