My wife and I spent 5 nights at the Hotel Zur Linde in Westerstede in early August. This is not a hotel we would recommend.

The hotel has no reception and this is administered from the restaurant next door. The week we were there was a local holiday and the restaurant was closed. There was someone present for a short period in the afternoon, but if you required help at any other time you were on your own as the hotel was not staffed. Crucially there was no help if you had an emergency overnight.

We had a room overlooking the main road above a bakery. The room was hot and we needed the windows open all the time as there was no air conditioning. The noise from traffic late at night and early in the morning with cars, lorries and buses running over the cobbles at the road junction meant that we were constantly woken up. In addition we were woken at 3.30 each morning when there was a very noisy delivery of goods to the baker. Very early morning visitors to the bakery were continually slamming car doors and talking in loud voices without consideration that hotel guests were trying to sleep.

We had breakfast in the cafe next to the bakery. This was adequate but limited in choice.

Staff came in to make beds in the morning, but there was no evidence of cleaning and toiletries used in the bathroom were never replaced. We ran out of shower gel and were down to the last few sheets of toilet paper. 

This is not what we would expect and it certainly was not good value.

Poor service and value

We found this hotel by chance. Spotted the lovely restaurant first!
The hotel is in a separate building to the restaurant, but covered by large umbrellas all the way.
There is parking at the front - which we found out later - where there is also a large sign on the wall saying Zur Linde hotel which we had missed!  
The rooms are a fair size with comfortable beds, easy chairs, plenty of space for open suitcases as well as wardrobes. 
The bathroom was not large but still a good size. The shower was powerful and kept the temperature well.
Everything was spotlessly clean.
Breakfast was good with normal variety. Bacon was at the buffet and scrambled egg cooked fresh for each guest.
Room/breakfast was very good value at just 80 Euros.
As a bonus the restaurant part of the hotel is one of the best we have ever visited.
We stayed here twice within a 2 week time frame, once on our way to Sweden and once on the return leg. And we will be back again on our next trip.
