Been there with my two sons (8y, 11y) in a family room.
The location is perfect. Directly at the beach and a 10 min easy walk from the train station and a 5 min walk to the city centre and pier. We even had sea view from our room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food is basic german standard and all you need. They try to serve organic and regional food.

Very nice hostel, perfect location

Accommodation in Ostseebad Binz on Rugen Island is expensive, at least during peak season in July and August. To stay in the hostel is an option to save some money, but you won't save much compared to what you need to give up. This is a classic old style German youth hostel where you need to be square to fit in the square hole.

First of all: Breakfast and dinner is included. No matter if you like it or not. This means that a basic bed in a dorm still costs about 35-40 € per night.

Also note that there is a Kurkarte fee - 2,60 € per person per night - this will allow you to visit the beach in Binz.

Positives:

The hostels location is perfect, basically in the most central spot next to the beach, and with its own beach.

Breakfast was very good. Yoghurt, fruit, bred, egg, cheese, sausages, ham, herring, etc.

Downsides:
Stayed in an 8 bed dorm. It had 3 power sockets and 5 cupboards and 7 bed lights. All rooms are very basic.
No Wi-Fi. You can buy access for 1 € per hour, but that only works in the lobby.
Beds were not comfortable, too short and the mattress was covered in some sort of plastic material that made noise as soon as any one moved.
Everything is inflexible. Breakfast is 8-9. Checkout 9.30. Dinner 17.30-18.30. No other times. Well the dinner can be exchanged to a lunch pack, which means you bring items from the breakfast.

My conclusion is that this hostel suits school classes or people that likes a specific non changeable plan. I do not recommend it to anyone else.
