Arriving and obtaining the key from a coded letterbox is not the most attractive form of welcome, the room is convenient, quiet and temperature-wise even in summer acceptable. Breakfast is good and parking possible. Dogs allowed at no extra fee.

good hotel for a travelstop

The hotel room was dirty unattended, the corner valve in the room was defective, we had to walk around in the water! No reaction despite the report. Too expensive! Reception occupied only sporadically. Breakfast was okay, but dirty glasses! Absolutely not recommended!

Advertising with restaurant and wine tasting recipes as well as room service is not all there is!

I can't quite agree with the critics that the room was large enough and clean enough. You can't forget that you live in an old building. A little bright. I don't really need TV when I'm on vacation but I also lacked the explanation with 2 remote controls - but there were over 100 channels.

Central location with sufficient comfort

The hotel's own Wi-Fi is still from the Stone Age. Fortunately, there is the urban one. Breakfast must be paid separately (Euro 14).

Kindness as Lack and Cost

Price/performance ratio miserable. Rooms about 10 square meters in size. Shower and various lamps not in order. Fön has a short circuit. Older renovation work was done very primitive. Breakfast buffet not particularly, with the bread on the first day you could have killed someone.... Positive: the employees were very friendly and the location in the middle of the old town is very good. If the room cost 75 € instead of 175 €, it would be quite acceptable, but for the price it is close to the cradle...

I am truly puzzled by the negative reviews of this hotel.  I was attending a conference and my room was booked for me; the bad reviews here had made me very nervous but I had a lovely experience at the Markgrafler Hof. I was on the first floor (second floor in American terminology), which I had asked for since I have trouble with stairs. The middle-aged lady at reception very kindly carried my bag up for me. The room was lovely; small, but sparkling clean, with a surprisingly large bathroom.  The bed was comfortable and the wifi worked acceptably, though it was a bit slow.  My room was overlooking the street so noise was a bit of a problem on the Friday night, but this is just to be expected in a university town.  I can only assume that there are other rooms in the hotel that were not as nice as mine. 

The breakfast was spectacular.  Five or six varieties of soft cheese, hard cheeses, sausages, cold cuts, fresh fruit, fruit compote, rolls, brown bread, baguettes, pumpernickel, two kinds of yogurt, three kinds of cereal, four kinds of honey, tomatoes . . . it was lavish and delicious.  

In short, I enjoyed my stay very much and would be happy to return. I suppose if you absolutely must have an elevator, or if you can't manage to communicate in even basic  German (the staff don't speak English), then this is not the place for you. But I enjoyed it very much and would recommend it.

Very pleasant room, excellent breakfast

The positive first: it's central, very central. So central that parking in front of the hotel is dangerous, since there are only restricted holdbacks. A (more expensive) parking is possible under the university, for a whopping 14 euros a day. So, now to the puddle core: the arrival, with the danger of a button in the neck, was adventurous. We wanted to watch our luggage, but the lady spent a lot of time in the back office and the luggage would have been unattended. Including a professional equipment.

Top of the line, poor recovery factor...

This hotel was recommended to me by a friend. Very disappointing: the location is nice, very close to the most active part of the old town, with bars and restaurants all around. We booked the arrangement "Badischer Lebensstil, night and dinner. 
The room we got had nothing to do with the pictures you see on the website. It was on the first floor, dark, small, very clean, but the bed was terrible. A double bed, but so bad that if one of us moved, the other would be rocked all around. The windows where on the canal behind, but there are people walking around, and an especially noisy neighbor...
We asked for another room, but there was none available, so we decided to move out and find another hotel in town.
The dinner was also a bit disappointing, because the titles is badischer Lebensstil, but none of it was local, it was some af a german imitation of mediterranean style...certainly not home made cooking, the gaspacho had a taste of tomato juice out of the bottle....

Very disappointing

Room was clean, fresh linen, clean bathroom and welcoming staff! We were on the 3rd floor (strong wifi reception) with a balcony overlooking the bächle! Breakfast had a variety of meat, cheese, bread, veggies, jogurt, cereal, juice, tea and coffee. Although located in Altstadt this hotel is on a street that is not as busy as 2 blocks (downtown) away. Our second time visiting this hotel and we plan to come back!

The room we were assigned was large and bright and well-heated compared to the outside temperature, but there is always one but you can see the basic prices of the room on any doc site and it's not worth what it costs at all! in this room we had a poor TV from the main course, from the universities and it's located in the old town. under the bed there was rubber stamps, the bathroom was already covered in the toilet and the tableclothes for the doc were already loaded. We believe that in the last minute we usually pay the price for the toilet seat, but we know that we know that it's worth the price for the toilet seat! that is to say, we have to get to the toilet seat and the toilet seat is unnecessary, but I didn't even have to pay the price for the whole day and I didn't even have to see it in the middle of the day.
