The room is so efficiently laid out, the bed comfortable and the bathroom perfect. The unique art in each room is especially notable. The breakfast cafe and staff were a great way to start the day. I used their small but functional workout facility as well. Internet was fast and reliable.

Attention to the details

The hotel is located close to the motorway exit, convenient for travellers on their way North or South, close to the Swiss border. 
The hotel is part of a bigger, modern building with a large restaurant. The overall styling of hotel and the rest of the building is decidedly “industrial”. The restaurant in quite large but still very busy so booking a table prior to your arrival is a good idea.
You reach the rooms over a gangway suspended over a large hall which is used for functions or meetings, hopefully not at night because the doors of the rooms give out directly on the hall.  The gangway on the first floor can be reached by lift, to reach the second floor you need to take one more flight of stairs so if you have a lot of luggage ask for a room on the first floor.
The rooms have a polished concrete floor, good bed, LCD tv of average size, air conditioning, a bathroom as a unit inside the room, behind a matt glass wall and a glass sliding door. No separate shower but a shower in the bath. There was a large mirror above the washing basin, with a small make up mirror attached in the middle.
Breakfast was a generous selection of everything common, served in the “café”, with a friendly service. 
In general, this hotel gives good value for money, but it lacks elegance and spirit. It was smelly in the rooms and everywhere in the building, maybe because it was too warm for the time of the year.

Close to the motorway

A GPS is highly recommended. The visit is well worthwhile. Friendliness through out all premises. Breakfast which is included keeps up easely with the very best and far more expensive hotels. Try it, it is worth it :-)

Simply an amazing hotel

We were booked to this hotel by our son because we have to attend an affair being held here. A bit strange when we found the place because we could not figure first the entrance of the hotel and hotel reception. But the personals were very friendly and not complicated. It is a deco hotel and each room are decorated differently. Our room is spacious with a balcony. The decor is not to my taste but OK. The beds are comfortable. The bathroom is clean and spacious. We went to bed late but we could still hear the noise ( not really bothered) of the wedding reception held on the hall downstairs. But later it was quiet. What I miss is a lamp near the bed since I usually read before I sleep. One more chair is not a luxury since if the chair is occupied the other person have to sit on the bed. The breakfast was excellent!

A deco hotel

You know the drill, arrive at reception, give your credit card, wait for registration, get your room key/card, enquire about wifi, get password, find the lift, get into your room, drop the bag and start to think about how you would like to be somewhere else. The basic frequent business trip drill.

At Schalfstadt, you get it different. You find your key on the reception desk with you name under it, you cross the large industrial hall one flight of stairs and enter your nice and cosy room, one of only 12. It is like coming home, no formalities, no standard. You open your laptop and you are connected on the open network.

If you appreciate simple and essential architecture, basic minimalist but very comfortable and good looking rooms and a very welcoming restaurant that caters more for the area than for the guests, meaning it does not at all feel like a hotel restaurant, then call Schalfstadt right away. And think about your morning breakfast in a small and airy breakfast room. It is home for when you are not home.
