Hotel Kolkha

The property is brand-spanking new, with great care taken to make sure everything was just right. The breakfast was a bit spartan, but we were the only guests in the whole hotel. HOWEVER, A CAUTION! The web site advertises this hotel being in the center of Kutaisi. It is not. It isn't even walking distance from the center, which I estimate to be about two miles away. It is in a good location for the outskirts of town, but it is not centrally located. Also there is very little parking, being just a turn-in from the main highway.

I highly recommend Hotel Kolkha, a really charming boutique hotel.
 
Our room (no. 12, ground floor) had the look and feel of a 5-star hotel: a huge room and an equally large bathroom complete with a double jacuzzi. Price includes free Wi-Fi and breakfast. We even got nice bathrobes and other small accessories we didn't expect to find in a 3-star hotel. And there is also a swimming pool and fitness room which we didn't even explore. Amazingly, our room costs less than $100 per night. This is a great place to relax after long days of hiking in the mountains. I think it certainly offers great value.

The staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. The manager, Irakli, speaks good English. 

Location is the only downside. It is right at the edge of town on the main road to Tbilisi, and it can be noisy day and night. It didn't bother us in the back room, though. To get to the center of Kutaisi you need to take a taxi or a microbus (no. 100 from across the street). On both sides of the hotel there are small corner shops that sell snacks and even fruit and vegetables.

The good hotel choice in Kutaisi is limited. So, it was a big surprise for me when I visited the hotel Kolkha by chance (all others were fully booked). It is newly opened small, 3 story hotel (just 12 rooms), but all rooms are big, bright, modern with comfortable furniture, big bathroom with all necessary details (additional mirror, extra light for shave etc), LCD TV with 55 channels (although the English channels are few), powerful AC, free WiFi. Breakfast is available and included in the price. The staff is very helpful and attentive.
The only disadvantage is that hotel is little bit far from the city center, but if you have a car or your host has a car it's no problem - it's take just 10 min to reach city center.     
So, I highly recommend this hotel.

Room felt like a 5-star hotel

A big surprise

The holel is located just on E 60, J 1 road, at the outskirts of the city - Kutaisi, so it is very comfortable if you are looking for a place on the road. On the other hand it is noisy... The hoter is new, the rooms are simple and clean, nothing fancy. The bed is not very comfortable. Breakfast is basic, without fresh fruits or vegetables. The staff is very nice and helpful. Try to book the rooms that don't face the road.

On the road

Kutaisi is not a hub of tourism and the hotel selection is limited and very over-priced compared to the rest of the country.  Hotel Kolkha had friendly, helpful staff and the room was reasonable.  There were two of us and we received a 2 bedroom suite... the hotel did seem full on a weekday, so hopefully they can bring the prices down a bit...  that said, it was no worse than other prices in Kutaisi.  The breakfast was adequate.  I recommend the nearby caves and park with dinasour footprints.
