I booked a stay with this hotel for a week in December 2021 am now unable to go due to the French Government imposing a ban on British Tourist. I informed the hotel of this and they immediately withdrew the fee for the entire planned stay from my bank account. I tried to contact them by phone which was never answered and then email asking if a refund would be possible they initially said that I would get a refund and then later stated that there would be no refund as my cancellation was for “political reasons”. My personal review would be to avoid these crooks by all means possible!

Refused a refund after initially promising one

We had 4 rooms for a one night stay on our way up to the Alps Feb half term.  Rooms are very small.  I would suggest when booking a double you ask for a twin as this means a slightly larger bed.  Linen was clean, rooms were very hot and when opening the windows the noise from outside with the traffic is very loud.  On leaving we asked why the charges we incurred were significantly higher than the price advertised in the hotel and was told that as we booked though booking.com we have to pay 10% more, The difference in what we paid was more than 10% so we felt somewhat cheated.  Breakfast was fine.  If you can find a different hotel in Bourg I would suggest staying there.

Expensive and very average

After planning our trip to hike the Tour de Mont Blanc, we learned that Champieux was only a very small village with two guest houses. We booked a room at Le Relais de la Vanoise as a close alternative and had to book a taxi to reach Bourg Saint Maurice.  The proprietor recommended a taxi service who were very responsive and got us where we needed to go.  The hotel was in a nice location in town and we easily walked around and found a place to have dinner.  Breakfast was very satisfying.  We visited during a particularly hot week; the rooms were on the smaller side and the hotel is on a busy road, so it was quite noisy when opening the windows.

Stay in Bourg Saint Maurice while hiking the TMB

I stayed here with my sister and parents as a stop-off on a hiking trip. This was the only hotel in the area with any available rooms, so we didn’t really have a choice. This was my first 2 star experience so I had no idea what to expect, but all in all I was disappointed. 

On arrival, the hotel looked slightly dingy and run-down, and we had to wait an hour to check in which was irritating. On entrance, it quickly became clear that the inside was worse than the outside. The corridors were dark and incredibly narrow, and clearly cheap. 

The road noise was appalling - the windows were only single glazed so did next to nothing to help block out the constant din, and since there were two of us in a tiny room in thirty-degree heat, we were forced to keep the window open all night as the heat was so intense. This meant that both of us woke up several times throughout the night. 

The bathtub was almost comically small - at 5’8” I am not one of the tallest people on the planet, but I found myself having to sit with my knees almost to my chest just to fit inside. I am not someone who is a particular fan of baths at the best of times, but since there was no shower I was forced to put up with it.

However, all that being said, the beds were comfortable enough and the sheets were clean. (And they provided a spare pillow for each of us, which was a bonus.) 

The breakfast was adequate, considering this was a 2 star hotel - there was cereal, fruit, yoghurt and bread, nothing to rave about but nothing to complain about either. 

I feel it’s worth mentioning that couples should undoubtedly opt for a twin room rather than a double room. My parents had originally booked a double, but as soon as they saw the bed they asked to swap to a twin. The “double” bed was tiny, not much wider than a single. It would have fitted two people, but barely, and certainly not comfortably. To the credit of the staff, they immediately agreed to swap the rooms and made no fuss at all (although the fact that we were the only people in the hotel might have made a difference). 

The staff were pleasant enough but on checkout it was clear that the lady had no idea how to operate the card machine, and this cost us upwards of 25 minutes on departure. 

All in all, I have to say I was glad that we were only staying for one night.

A quick note to thank you for accommodating my family and my guests so comfortably at Relais Vanois earlier this month. We all enjoyed our stay with you very much and were impressed by the modifications you have made to the reception, bar and restaurant areas.
 
The beds were comfortable and the food you served for breakfast and supper was very good. We liked your assistant (the lady at breakfast) very much indeed. 
 
It was a very good start to our holiday, which we then enjoyed in Villaroger for the rest of the week.

Fabulous accommodation and restaurant in Bourg St. Maurice

Authentic French hotel - super hospitality - good rooms and excellent dinner in evening.  There were 40 of us in group and we are all treated so well.  Excellent home cooked food - would really recommend for the food along
