We came down on the TGV from Brussels and caught a cab to rue de Boef where we had to walk a couple of blocks into the old quarter to find Artelit. Frederic met us and we were shown to the room, an absolutely gorgeous collection of world art and comfort. This district is definitely the place to stay in Lyon, easy access to everything in a comfortable walking district and Artelit is one of the nicest places to spend a few days. I wish we could have stayed longer. We hope to return again soon and we'll do just that. 

Wonderful Host and Room

Location, charm, atmosphere, decoration, cleanliness, good service... Most exceptionally the superb location and charming building/rooms. Just perfect in every sense. If you find a place here, don't look elsewhere, just book it. You won't regret it.

Can't beat this in Lyon

This is quite unique accommodation which essentially consists of two room options at this location and a third room a couple of blocks away.
The rooms are owned and managed by Frederic whose photographic gallery is situated in the complex below the accommodation.
Being in a building centuries old, the rooms are distinctly different in layout and decor so it may be worth clarifying the exact features of the intended room.
It is important to balance the uniqueness of staying in such a historic room complete with original artworks versus the convenience of some of the features you might expect of a contemporary hotel. 
The bed in the 1565 room is located in a partial mezzanine with low headroom but plenty of character. However, it would not suit someone not agile enough to scale the access steps and stoop below the roof beams.
The shower was a little cramped with limited articulation of the shower head and no soap holder.
There are tea making facilities and a fridge but no air conditioning.
Wifi is available but of limited speed.
The location is on one of the cobbled non-trafficable roads of the old town, however, parking is available by the river about 200m away.
The location is great being in the heart old town on the bank of the Soane River with many restaurants in the area.
It is wise to book any of the better restaurants or otherwise face the confusion of many 'bouchon lyonnaise' of modest quality.
Most of the town is within walking distance or otherwise there is a subway system with the nearest station about a 5 minute walk away.
Frederic was extremely helpful and made it a very homely experience.
Strongly recommended as a unique experience but don't expect all the features you might expect in a hotel.

Historic room in an excellent location 

The name Artelit refers to the collection of art that decorates this lovely light room in the centre of old Lyon.  The owner runs an antiques shop down the same lane, and he has furnished the room, at the base of an historic tower (sorry dont know more!) with a wide range of pictures and more.  Very good powerful shower and a seperate kitchenette.  WiFi is just about there, but there is no TV (there are DVDs) or breakfast, neither of which bothered us.  

Very good B&B (or maybe just B) in the centre of the old town and well worth a stay,

Novel and interesting room

The ARTELIT 1565 Suite is like an antique shop or stage set; that looks good but not practical for a room for three or more. The master bed is in a small loft space and when you get out of bed you must remember there is are large oak beams above your head. If you are are under five feet tall you have no worries. The bathroom looked nice but just OK, old shower; we had to ask for soap and shampoo. The cups and water glasses at the hotplate where dirty from the previous guest... not a good sign. The room could have been cleaner too. The sofa is a pull out bed but not very comfortable for one or two persons. In my opinion, this room is only suitable for two persons maximum. No air conditioning! Even in early June this room can be hot at night even for someone like us from the tropics. On the plus side, it was quiet at night. Public parking is available three blocks away by the river; factor this into your daily cost. Ask a lot of questions before you book. With a few upgrades (air conditioning), cleaning and preparation details; this room can be a great place for two. The owner wants to please, is very nice and helpful.
