Perfectly presented and perfectly home baked pain au chocolat et croissants accompanied by two breads , home made juices and coffee constitute breakfast at Hotel Patricia . And very reasonably priced .This is all served by Lucie on the garden terrace under the fertile lemon tree , blooming bougainvillea and burgeoning collection of plants.Lucie and her partner purchased Patricia seven years ago and have been working assiduously since to replace floors , tiling , and bring the ten rooms into the modern day .Room 3 is la piece de resistance with a splendid balcon overlooking both the rail-line and chateaux Nellcote that housed the Rolling Stones 50 years ago and out over Le Bay. Don’t be put off by the railway as one is very soon oblivious to the various types of train rumbling through. The decor is verging on art decor but not overtly and Room 3 boasted two very comfy repo chairs The wall was blessed with a painting by local Artiste anglaise , a woman who paints glorious scenes of the Villefranche bay front ( initials LV ). Plenty of internal seating areas with collection of books for the autumnal months the Patricia is a hidden gem. If one can pull oneself away from the balcony view the Patricia is s short walk to Villefranche or equally short to St Jean and Beaulieu . I was even asked to make a foursome at the adjoining V/F tennis club. In an age when former greats such as neighbouring Voile D’or in St Jean are being sold up for development into apartments we should be ever more grateful to Lucie and partner for risking everything to create such a boutique alternative .Merci ,nous reviendrons .
