Sara and Ian Fisk are excellent hosts in their beautiful old house in the Dordogne.  The facilities are great with comfortable well appointed rooms and family accommodations in a lovely rural setting.  There is a large pool and lots of facilities for bikes, games and other activities for children plus a cookery school with Ian several days a week.
The breakfasts were delicious including Ian's homemade jams and bread from the local bakery. The setting is peaceful and close to all of the lovely historic towns for which the area is famous.

A wonderful setting and welcoming hosts perfect for couples or families

Driving to reach this wonderful place was an experience itself, so many beautiful buildings, well maintained and wonderful scenery as we crept deeper into the countryside. Tranquility, birds, occasional animals in fields and beautiful wildflowers together with forests of oak and lush verdant valleys.

We were not expecting the beautiful building, most photos are taken from an advantage point, but everywhere you looked was charming, but perhaps even as impressive, was the wonderful perfume of the honeysuckle, as we were fortunate to arrive on truly sunny day, and everything looked simply beautiful.

The building is better than quaint, full of charm and all the original features, as far as we could see, have been maintained and restored. The rooms are light and airy and extremely comfortable. Open the windows and you have birdsong.

Downstairs is very well set out so that you can enjoy reading in the shade, swimming is at a distance so if there were noisy children they wouldn’t disturb the house and if you feel like exercise there are plenty of paths to try. The local town, St Cyprien,  is an easy walk away.

We ate breakfast and dinner, prepared by our hosts and And Sarah. Lots of local produce, everything absolutely delicious and fresh.

The breakfasts, for a quasi French establishment, were exceptional. A really good fusion of the usual English with a French twist.

We also had the pleasure of a cooking class which we found instructive and informative. Ian is a very knowledgeable chef and gave us both good ideas, tips and preparatory suggestions. Altogether a very interesting morning plus, he had the sense to provide some yummy wines to accompany the dishes we tasted. Altogether an excellent experience.

We felt well rested and thoroughly enjoyed our time there. Would recommend for a group of friends or families, each would find it equally enjoyable. Five gold stars to our hosts.

Truly a great place.

A delightful garden for a large party of friends. Our hosts were so gracious and a good time was had by all. The rooms are comfortable and the château is oh so charming, located in the center of all that makes the Dordogne  a favorite travel destination

Themed Party in the Garden

My wife and I stayed here two nights in October so we could take a class at the cooking school.  Our large room overlooked the beautiful grounds and was very clean and comfortable.  The hosts were very gracious and made us feel right at home.  The breakfast was superb with many choices.  We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Place

We arrived at Le Chevrefeuille for a two night stay with the express purpose of attending their cooking school and visiting Font du Gaume which is located just 5 minutes away.  We arrived at their rural property with multiple buildings and we were oriented by owner Sarah who with her husband Ian moved to the area from England about 16 years ago.  They have called this home and raised their children in this beautiful setting and developed the property to include a wonderful cooking school as well as apartments to accommodate larger group and family stays.  We were shown to our room which was just charming with beautiful quilts, a lovely bathroom and a wonderfully comfortable bed.  It was spotlessly clean.  There was space in another area to keep refrigerated items and an honor bar in the breakfast room.  The property also has a swimming pool.  The cooking school is conducted outdoors in a covered area with multiple workstations and a long dining table.  We loved the school which included a trip to the St. Cyprien market with expert guidance from Ian.  We spent the entire day preparing courses with dining interspersed.  It covered both lunch and dinner for us.  The next morning we arose early for breakfast and headed directly to Font du Gaume to tour the cave.  We so enjoyed our stay and I would recommend it for families traveling with children as well as couples.



A wonderful stop on our 3 week journey

The cooking class at Chevrefeuille was a high point of our three weeks in France. Ian took us to the ancient market (continuously running since the 14th century!) in Le Bugue and explained the intricacies of the varieties of veggies and meats we saw in the stalls, and we brought back ingredients to prepare under his supervision and funny observations. After preparing each course we got to sit and enjoy it with good wine and conversation with our fellow travelers, and learned so much about the food and the Dordogne area. Please make this a definite stop if you're in the area -- it's completely worth it, and really fun.

Food and great fun in the Dordogne

We stayed in Passiflore gite for a week in August with our 2 children. La Chevrefeuille is such a beautifully calm and quiet spot in a great location. We enjoyed a day canoeing on the Dordogne, river beach trips, visiting Bournat and the local food markets during our stay and a couple of afternoons relaxing by the pool. The children loved having the guinea pigs out for cuddles (they are very much missed!) and exploring the grounds. The swings were a bonus and it felt a very safe place to be. Sarah was incredibly helpful and accommodating. It really made our holiday in France. I recommend a trip to Creperie L’ Abreuvoir in Le Bugue!

Lovely family holiday

We had a wonderful 10 day stay at Le Chevrefeuille. We stayed 7 nights in The Passiflore gite and 3 nights b&b in the Family room and Family Suite. 

The gite was fantastic for our family as it had all the conveniences we needed and the terrace led on to the garden and pool. But it was also lovely to stay in the b&b, which had beautiful rooms (family suite was especially lovely), a tasty breakfast and the chance to chat with other guests at breakfast.

The gites and house are surrounded by lovely gardens and a courtyard. The pool is fantastic and safely surrounded by a gate. The play room was a big hit with our girls, as were the pets. It felt so safe, we were able to relax, while our 5 year old twins enjoyed some real independence playing with new friends.

The other guests were a nice mixture of families, and couples from UK, France, America and elsewhere. 

Sara, Ian and their kids were amazing hosts. Their daughter was so patient with our daughters who ‘helped’ her clean out the pets and do other jobs around the place. 

When we weren’t relaxing by the pool, we had a great time canoeing, horse riding (next door), visiting caves and a typically French prehistoric outside attraction/ museum, which the girls loved. There were some lovely family friendly French restaurants nearby. We also had a great time at the night market in Audrix with the tasty food, music and fun atmosphere.

We had such a lovely stay. Would thoroughly recommend.

Relaxing and fun family holiday

We found this place through our agent with Ciao Bambino. The price seemed too good to be true but this is a gem of a hotel. Our kids needed to unwind after a day of site seeing and this place had everything we needed to relax and unwind. Sarah is lovely and provided a great breakfast every morning. Unfortunately they don’t serve dinner anymore but they did give us recommendations for nearby restaurants. 

Great little place to stay 

We had a wonderfully relaxing time here at Le Chevrefeuille. Sara, Ian and their lovely children made us feel very welcome and were always around if we needed them. The setting is stunning, and it's very quiet in a good way.  Perfect spot if you have small children, lots to do at the house, they will never be bored, tons of safe space to run around in. I highly recommend doing the half day family cooking course, it was great fun and something different. Close to many lovely towns and castles. I would highly recommend Le Chevrefeuille.
