We booked 7 Hotel Particulier (Private Hotel) as an overnight stop in Agen because it offered secure parking. On arrival, and on the telephone, the owner gave us the access code and kindly allowed us to park without charge. However, reader be warned, the accommodation itself is anything other than a ‘Hotel’. The word in this context is a misnomer and is misleading since this is a remotely managed building of apartments and studios. Ours was a ‘studio’ on the ground floor and was certainly compact.  As I write this in bed I am looking at a large fridge freezer, a washing machine, a kettle and coffee maker, sink, ceramic hob, kitchen cupboards a shower (hand held only), hand basin and a small toilet space. To my left is an air conditioning unit, a tv set and a small round table and to my right a wardrobe and an original fireplace. So you’ll see that it is well equipped but this used to be somebody’s front room and is just over four meters square. However the bed is comfortable, the air-con works (albeit loudly) and it is reasonably priced at 75€. But please don’t think it’s a ‘Hotel’.

We should have realised it’s not a hotel.

This is a perfect place to stay.  The apartment (2 bedrooms, bathroom and open kitchen- living room plan) is spacious, clean and very tastefully decorated in a fun modern style.  There are plenty of towels, comfy bedding and excellent coffee for the morning.  It is situated in a lovely older building which has been carefully refurbished.  It is close to the covered market and several good restaurants.  There is parking just outside the building ( you have to pay but the ticket issued can be used all over the city).  The owner was super responsive - we did some laundry which didn’t dry and she let us check out late even though there was someone checking in that afternoon. Now that’s what I call accommodating. We would definitely stay again.
