It's okay. You get what you payed for. Pros: everything is within walking distance, (casinos, colonial zone, restaurants) it's affordable if you're on a budget, staff is nice, the rooms are spacious. Cons: slightly dated (comforters stiff, pillows either small and soft or large and hard). There are girls hustling near by, but I didn't see it as a pro or a con. I'd recommend it if you're only staying for like the weekend.

You get what you pay for

- Cockroaches inside tub, 2 days in 1 week stay - Tub shower faucet broken, water temperature can't be controlled (either too hot or too cold)- Dark room illumination

Location, close to colonial city, right next to the ocean and a lot of restaurants near the hotel at a great value.

Convenient and at a great value hotel

I liked the location. The staff was really helpful, nice and attentive. The hotel was very clean and relatively safe. If you don't want to stay in the Zona Colonial but want to be close to it all, this hotel is for you. Good and inexpensive restaurants very close by. 

Great for the price!

The hotel needs a complete renovation in order to keep up with the competition. Needs new bedding, etc...

so disappointed

Unable to accept credit card payment upon check-in and had to pay cash (supposed verifone problem).  The room assigned was street side and extremely noisy people outside all night.  The mattress was so terrible we couldn't sleep and, when we turned off the air conditioner, water leaked on the head of the bed.  Our room was changed for 2nd & 3rd nights and the mattress was a little better.  The showers had hot water but in 2nd room the hot water tap turned burning hot and coudn't be touched.  Hard to control water temperature.  There are about 3 parking spaces in front of hotel and we had good luck in being able to use this.  The location is great and the low price makes up for much, but I still can't recommend and won't stay again.

Needs new mattress but good location

This is a locally owned small hotel(about 30 rooms) which is excellent for those who do not wish to spends tons of money on hotel rooms.  The Duque is clean, safe and has basic amenities like Wifi, a generator, a small restaurant and cable.   The location is in an upcoming neighborhood with all services in short walking distance.  It is steps away from the Colonial Zone and a block from the Malecon.  The staff is dedicated to making everyone's stay a pleasant one.  If you want the Marriott, Hilton or Hyatt then this is not for you.

Good deal for the Money

This hotel is very nice, in a very residential area of SD called Gazcue. The area can be a little rough at night and it didn't appear to be a gay hotel as it supposedly once was. Nor did I think the food at the Italian restaurant was good. Also the floors were relatively dirty. I put my feet on the ground for 5 minutes in my room and they were pitch black.

The best thing about the hotel was the staff. The staff was incredible, the receptionist at the front door from sunrise to sundown were absolutely amazing! They were always really helpful even the travel people were very informative and attentive. I also liked the night security guard!

My favorite thing of the hotel overall is that one of the owners (an Italian) has an adoption agency and he adopts and helps find homes for young Dominican kids. I found this very heartwarming which made me feel like my hotel money was going for a good cause. I don't regret staying here and seeing the way he interacts with his adopted children made me feel warm inside.

Overall this hotel is good for a short-time stay

Neat little cute hotel

this time I went in April for a short weekend vacation..Same price..They don't even asked U for payment methods until U check out.Only a copy of your passport.
Girls hustling outside after 900pm and boys all day trying to sell U "anything".
Girls have to left their IDS on the front desk and a 5 USD fee is charge to your room for every girl U take to your room..
Only when U call the front desk and let them know all its OK with your belongings then they release the ID to the girl..
Hotel is excellent for the 50 USD a night for a room but on the corner there are better hotels for 40USD ...
A plus is an inside Italian rest inside with all prices...
Boys really harass you trying to sell U belts ,shoes or trying to polish your shoes..They don't take NO more an answer .
They got a problem with the Haitians emigration..U can see a lot of Haitians all over the capital and they don't even speak Spanish yet...But U know emigration is a real problem all over the world.
Like here with Mexicans over there they are underpaid and used for hard and cheap working labor.
If U are into black or mulatas girls that place is for U..
U don't have too many white Dominicans on the street...
a normal price from airport to the hotel is about 38 to 40 USD .

A lot of noise before midnight

My second time was better

This hotel is situated between the big hotels in "malecon" area, in fact the sea path floor is just far two minutes by walk, where there is also a kids play area so good for family. Beside it takes ten minutes by walk to arrive to centre in the colonial city and see the historical part and museums, which is also a active nightlife place, full of places where eat, drink and to have party! The Hotel is quiet and the room have a good quality, with free wi-fe and phone. The service is great, the people always prepared for customers and always smiling. The ambient is really familiar and this is the strengths because you don't feel like an number but just one of them. I'm going to Santo Domingo often for work and I'll definitely come back there!
