I visited Amaterra last year and came away rejuvenated but this retreat with a  7 day stay was and still reverberates in my body and soul. Where do I begin ? Jill and Bob (owner and operators)  always take the time to visit and get to know all their guests between our sessions. 
The 3 meals per day headed by chef, Pam was delicious,  beautiful presentations and always room for seconds. My Casita was newly refurbished and tasteful,  always clean. The staff  are friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. My bed was so comfortable , hard to rise for early Yoga. Jill managed to find time to take those interested on a fascinating herbal walk...she is a gifted herbalist. I purchased 2 separate tinctures and they have been extremely helpful.
I hope to visit again and spend time surrounded by wonderful individuals such as Jill and Bob.



Soften into the Feminine, A Women's Retreat

I was part of a group travel experience at AmaTierra in March 2023. It was pure delight! My casita was cozy and comfortable and set in a gorgeous landscape. The food? I can't stop raving about the delicious fresh fish and vegetarian dishes. I am not a vegetarian and there was always fish or chicken but really, the vegetarian dishes held their own. The acreage is gorgeous. One of the staff members has been there since the resort was built and he knows every tree and every bird and lizard. I felt so welcomed. Jill, one of the owners, is an herbalist and I had a health-altering session with her. I only left the resort for one trip (a tour of the national park and time at the beach) and while I thoroughly enjoyed it was glad to get back to my "rainforest home." The shala was perfect for group yoga and meditation but also a good spot to sit and watch the birds or the sunset or just swing in the hammock. I am a traveler, I go as often as I can and am always looking for new places. I had such a wonderful experience here that I plan to go back!

A week of bliss!

I found most everything about the resort and this trip to be amazing. The food was delish, and they did their best accommodate the dietary needs of 22 people on our retreat. The cottages were somewhat basic, but I didn't mind at all, it's the kind of thing I was looking for on this trip. The yoga pavilion was unbelievable! It was like something out of a dream to practice in such a beautiful space. I did not have a chance to take advantage of the massages and other amenities, but I heard nothing but good things from everyone who did. The pool was the perfect temperature. 
Not that they have a hand in it, but I love that the weather is warm all the time, and during our trip it was generally sunny and warm in the morning, then the clouds started rolling in after lunch, and by late afternoon it was raining. But it was a warm rain, I enjoyed sitting out on our covered patio and listening to it.
Would go back, thank you Bob, Jill, and everyone!

A very relaxing & uplifting yoga retreat

This was one of the most relaxing, comforting, rejuvenating AND welcoming Retreat Center.  Between the staff, the atmosphere, the amenities, the owners, the food, and of course the incredible location and views - all of it made for a deeply peaceful, joyful and soul replenishing experience. I will definitely be going back!

Peace

Was part of a 14 person yoga retreat. All details for our group were so well attended to - from multiple airport pickups, to food restrictions. The owners Bob and Jill and their wonderful staff are so welcoming and friendly,  The food every day was exceptional, 3 great fresh meals prepared by Jake and so nicely served. The Shala for yoga is a magical spot surrounded by beauty and the sounds of nature. The rooms are clean and comfortable. The pool is a great place to relax and enjoy the views and sounds and was kept very clean and fresh. Massage therapist Viviane is exceptional. We had a wonderful time and magical experience. 

Warm and welcoming

I went here for a yoga and wellness retreat for 14 people and felt a peaceful vibe from the moment I arrived.  The resort is about an hour's  drive from San José airport - a scenic welcome to beautiful Costa Rica. The resort will arrange a driver for you at a very reasonable rate.
The retreat is in the jungle so we were treated to sounds sighs and smells of nature.  All of our meals were amazing - provided by the talented chef Jacob - and you could taste the healthy energy in every deliciously prepared bite.  The meals were served 'family style' and the portion sizes were perfect.

The rooms were spacious and comfortable and I slept like a baby every one of the 9 nights I was there.  There is a little bit of a steep walk to some of the cabins, so if this is not for you, request to be placed in one of the ones nearest the main building.

The owners, Jill and Bob, were so helpful and accommodating, as was their assistant manager, Viviana.   All of the staff were eager to help in any way they could.

If you want a vacation at a 5 star American-style resort, AmaTierra is not for you.  If however, you want to reconnect with yourself and like minded people in a natural paradise, this is the place to go.

A beautiful experience!

One of the most amazing places run by the most amazing people.

- Bob and Jill are such kind authentic people. I want them to adopt me! Bob is so nice and helpful in coordinating any excursions you want to do- he was also great at communicating and answering all my questions before the trip. Jill is so knowledgeable about herbs and other natural remedies. You immediately feel at home when you meet them. 
- Beautiful yoga studio, so peaceful. The hammock was a favorite relaxation spot
- Fabulous daily yoga classes, some meditations as well
- Cute and spacious rooms, love the little patio- I would sit outside each morning and journal
- Food was so good! I was never hungry. 
- I really enjoyed having communal dinners with the other guests. I often stay to myself when traveling alone but everyone was so friendly and easy to talk to. I left with many new friends. 
- Loved the excursions - national park, beach, waterfall, horse/spirit/play. We also had a dance lesson and party one night
- The massage was amazing! Added on "the works" which was fabulous and I really loved the chakra healing. 
- Plenty of places to sit and enjoy nature, perfect for journaling and relaxation
- Felt very safe, especially as a solo female traveler. Airport transfers were easy. 
- It's a very healing place. I released a lot of tears. I was there for new years eve- they had an amazing ceremony. Would love to go back for that again and for a detox retreat. 

It's really just a special, special place. I will carry the experience with me forever. 

Amazing Amatierra

I have so much gratitude for my time at Amatierra. I originally planned to go here just to do some yoga and relax but I got so much more healing out of the experience and I learned so much about how to deal with anxiety, fear and stress. Jill and Bob have created an incredible environment for people to unwind, connect and heal. I also feel so lucky to have met our yoga instructor Jacqueline who brought such a peace and healing presence to the retreat.

Mornings start with slow hatha yoga and then you have each meal with all other guests without devices. After being isolated from COVID for so long it was such a joy to get to know the other guests and form deep connections with them in such a short span of time. In the evenings you either have a slow restorative yoga session, mediation or wellness class, each followed by dinner. You could also adjust your schedule for excursions including an amazing experience to see a nearby waterfall with guide Popo! He can also teach you how to dance. :) 

Please go in with an open mind and open heart and you will really get a lot out of the experience! Thanks again!

Transformational Experience!

AmaTierra is a beautiful place to unwind and unplug. As a solo female traveler I felt completely safe and at home there. The staff knew me by name and were extremely accommodating. The food was delicious and the services offered were fantastic.  I got a massage and ear candling while I was there, and also, used the bio-mat. Jill and Bob have created a blissful escape in the jungles of Costa Rica, to reconnect with yourself and nature. I left feeling replenished, renewed, and happy! I can’t wait to one day return. I highly recommend AmaTierra… I already have told my family and friends to check it out. Thank you to all my friends at AmaTierra for an experience I will always cherish.

Nature + Yoga + Organic Food + Integrative Medicine = Fantastic Experience!

WOW, hard to believe it has been over 2 weeks since I returned from my AMAZING Yoga/Meditation Retreat at Ama Tierra!  This was my first retreat and first-time visiting Costa Rica. It was everything I had hoped for and much more. (I am already looking forward to going back!)

Everything flowed from the very beginning when Bob and I first started communicating. He was responsive in all our communications and very thorough. I originally booked a 5 – Day Retreat, and I wanted to arrive a day early, and he was able to accommodate. Having the extra day gave me a chance to settle in.

I was there over the Thanksgiving Holiday and Ama Tierra hosted the best Thanksgiving Dinner away from home. We had the works; turkey, mashed potatoes/gravy, broccoli, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and pumpkin pie. Bob, Jill, and their staff went out of their way to ensure all guests had a pleasant experience even if Thanksgiving was not a tradition.  
I was there for five full days and each day was just as amazing as the next. Crazy as it may sound, I enjoyed the routine and scheduled events. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner was the same time every day, and the food was delicious and healthy. It was mostly vegan/vegetarian and if you are a meat eater, this will give your body a chance to reboot. I was always surprised at the menu and enjoyed all the options. Kudos to the chef.
Every morning we had a group yoga class and, in the evening, we either had a yoga, meditation, or sound therapy. I spent most of my days lounging by the pool, napping writing in my journal, and hanging out in the hammock. We had a day at the rainforest and free time in the local town.

I had 60 min massage with Viviana and she was so incredible, I had to return for a 90 Works Massage which included a scrub, wrap and a mini facial.  (Please try this, it was so relaxing, and my skin loved it)  

I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Jill was also an experienced and talented instructor with chakra aligning. I almost swallowed my eyeballs when I saw Sound Chakra Therapy was available!!!

If you are looking for a homey type of resort, Ama Tierra is your place. Bob, Jill, Jacqueline (very talented Yoga Instructor), Viviana (best massage therapist) and the entire staff, are so wonderful and I’m blessed have had my first Yoga Retreat with such caring people.
