BaseLIVING Wending Serviced Apartment

My boyfriend and I were so pleasantly surprised with how great our stay was at New Beacon. The reviews we read were pretty neutral, so we were expecting an average stay, but that changed as soon as we entered our room... Which can only be described as a 1970s bamboo love den. Easily the grooviest room in Shanghai for that price. Spacious bedroom, desktop computer, nice shower, living area with a lime green couch, a glass wall displaying fake bamboo and tiny stuffed pandas, and two TVs in case you and your lover have different taste in Chinese soaps. Amazing. No smoking in the room, but there was an ash tray on top of a glass coffee table filled with synthetic rose petals. Just for the vibes, I guess. More good stuff: -free water and coffee in the room -short, cheap cab ride to line 11 station that took us straight to Shanghai Disneyland -staff was super nice! Our train from BJ got us to Shanghai around 00:30 but there was a gentleman at the front desk who checked us in. His English was minimal, and so is our Chinese, but we got by just fine (he even understood that we booked two separate reservations for Friday and Saturday nights, and kept us in the same room for both nights) -the woman who checked us out spoke great English, helped us order a cab to the city, and called us when the staff found our headphones we left behind in the room. -across the street is a bar/restaurant (I think it was called Georgio's) where we had late night snacks, great beer, and they're open early for coffee and juices. I would definitely stay here again. Do yourself a favor and request the bamboo room.
