We stayed in Dukou hostel for five nights in January 2012.

The location of the hotel is great - in a quiet, pittoresk residential area on top of a hill, next to Jinying park, temples and a short taxi or busride from the West Lake. 

The room is fine. Comfortable beds, TV and a small bathroom with hot shower. Our airconditioning did not work, so we could change to another room. The aircon worked somewhat better, but it was still cold.Towels are provided, but not daily. We had to ask for toilet paper and towels. 

Breakfast is very limited - toast and eggs. Instant coffee and tea is available.

The service is so-so. We were helped by a very friendly, enthusiastic young man. We could even use his laptop to check our emails. He speaks English. The owner does not speak English. They invited us to dinner, which was very nice.

We had paid in advance for five nights. We had to leave home one day earlier, so we announced this two days in advance. We could not get our money back for one night. we thought this is rather unusual, since hotels usually refund if cancelled 24 hrs or longer in advance. 

All in all, it's a small, cute hotel in a great location with nice gestures of hospitability. The lack of proper breakfast, cold room and no refund however will make us think twice to go back. I hope they will work on this!
