The owner lady did not want to refund my deposit, made 3 months in advance for one night; for circumstances beyond my control (a new job obtained in the dates of my stay, planned well in advance), I had to cancel my stay by giving her 2 weeks notice. 

She was very unpleasant and showed a lack of understanding and would not refund my deposit.  Especially since there is no cancellation policy on her website, I had to argue with her. Normally, within 48 hours notice, all hotels and B&Bs give refunds. I told her about this and she was very persistent in telling me that she would not refund me!!

**Be careful if you make a deposit and are not sure of your dates of stay, even if you give her a long advanced notice, you will not see your money back!!!

Unpleasant Host !!

You wanna feel like being in a military boot camp? That's the place to be..the owner are so severe about everything including the time spending in the shower!!
Briefly, don't spend a penny at this place...Choose everything else instead of sleeping nearby the hell

Boot camp

We booked for three guests from the tourist information Center at Malbaie. As soon as we arrived the hosts was very unwelcoming, she expressed concern for other guests, since it was a shared bathroom, we were adviced not to occupy the bathroom for too long and highly recommended not to use the shower, again for other guests comfort. In addition she was worried how she can manage to fix breakfast to everyone, since I saw how worried she was I offered to leave without taking breakfast all together, she agreed and she gave us yogurt and cheese ‘to take with us”. There was a fridge offered to other guests but not for us, my food stayed in the cooler overnight in the car... it was barely cool the next morning, In addition, the floors were squeaking, there was no air conditioners but there was a loud fan in the room, we had to open the windows for fresh air but the traffic was loud.
Needless to say my stomach was in nuts, felt very unwelcome and it was an uncomfortable night, she was quick to take the cash, she doesn’t take credit card, plus ‘ b&b fees’ and taxes...hope no one else experience such a harsh b&b experience.

Unpleasant experience

Friendly hostess. Great breakfast. Quiet location. Loves the decor. Lots of art work.

Room: we had the green room with a queen bed and private bathroom. The room was clean, rustic and charming, in a renovated house originally built in the mid 1800s. Bed was firm and comfortable. En suite bathroom was clean, modernized but a little cramped.
 
Reception: We were cordially welcomed by Suzanne the hostess, and shown to our room. 

Breakfast: Quite good. Apple slices with cheese. Home-style pancakes with local blueberries and maple syrup.

Booking: BEWARE: PRICE BAIT and SWITCH. This BnB has several rooms listed on Air BnB, and the bed size and bathroom type (private or shared) were not clearly stated nor specified for the rooms that were listed, so we sent the hostess a message to ask if they were queen size beds. The answer was no, that the rooms listed at $91 and $97 CAD were double beds with a shared bathroom , but that they had another ‘green’ room available, listed on ‘another site’, with queen bed and private bathroom, for $110 CAD tax included, but plus a 3% Quebec Tourist Association tax payable on arrival.  Hostess said she would “move” that room onto the Air BnB site. We tried to find it on Air BnB after they “moved” it, but we could not. So they told us to book one of their other existing room listed on Air BnB at $97, and that room totaled up to $109 CAD tax included, which we paid thru the site So we figured we would settle for the $1 difference, plus the 3% QTA tax, right ? Wrong !

When we arrived that night, I offered to settle the difference upon our arrival, but hostess said she would settle the difference in the morning. So after breakfast, she said that her written quote of $110 tax incl DID NOT INCLUDE THE AIRBNB FEE that is applied automatically when you book, and with the 3% ATL tax, that we owed her $13 more! Her justification was that she was being charged a fee by Air BnB and that she was not getting the full $97 from the other room used to book us. That was not what we expected, and this never stated in her written communication with us. When asked why she didn’t tell us when we booked, she said she did not know nor could not estimate the difference the Air BnB fee would be. Really !  Regardless, she didn’t even tell us that this fee would be added, and insolently felt justified to collect from us! We hate when someone baits and then switches the price. We settled by paying $10 more, not worth the argument !

Beware of Price Bait and Switch

We enjoyed our stay at this lovely b&b. The breakfast was very tasty with different food and place setting every day.  The walls were decorated with eclectic and tasteful paintings and there is art everywhere.  The owners were very pleasant and helpful. The view and gardens were beautiful.

We stayed at La Malbaie at La Maison sous les lilas a very good address .We had a pleasant stay in a very cosy house .It was like beiing at home else where .Our host were helpfull and welcoming.We were visting gardens and this B n B is surrounded by there own flowers and lilacs. Here a  breakfast is a tastefull experience we where here 2 nights we had a different and delicious breakfast each morning. We will comme back as soon as possible.

Better than home :)

The problems we found:
1 - Noisy bed and floor (hard to sleep!)
2 - No alternative options for breakfast
3 - Compared to other B & B, It's very expensive for what it offers (you can find better for the same price!
4 - The hosts were not exactly "friendly"
