For the price, the hotel is incredible. The rooms are relatively big, the building is nice, the view is pretty good, breakfast is great and the host is one of the nicest people I've ever encountered. 
Only slight blemish is that the beds were not very comfortable, had a bit of trouble sleeping. No A/C means it does get hot in the rooms in the summer, but it wasn't unbearable. 
There was some "lewd" drawings hung on the wall of our room which we just found funny but I guess could offend some people. 
We stayed for one night and paid only 44lv for a 2-person room. Can't complain whatsoever. 

Great Value for Money

We booked the apartment, though we didn't use it for self-catering. Apart from the bed being very hard it was very roomy and comfortable. Both the lounge and the bedroom opened onto a large balcony with views across the valley and of the mountains. Although meals were not included the owner, who speaks excellent English, was happy to provide breakfasts or dinners by arrangement and at a very reasonable price. He was also very helpful in arranging a taxi to other places (we went for the Kazanlak Rose Festival). There is a local restaurant within easy walking distance and also a fine Orthodox Church. Within travelling distance are the town of Kazanlak, the Damascena Ethnographical Centre and the Shipka Memorial.

More than Value for Money

We stayed there overnight and chose this place over the Shipka hotel because we are somehow allergic to the modern misunderstood luxury that dominates the balkans. Anyway, it was a great stay the rooms are rustic but cosy and in good state. The highlite was the breakfast, we chose the traditional one over the continental and it was the right decision. If you are there, don't forget to visit the town at night, it's nothing special as arhitecture or places to visit but it is very quiet and pleasant.

Great place for family relaxation

We stayed with our son of the age of 6 at Hotel Perenika. It's a very charming place, well-kept old house, specialized in big groups but also perfect for our family. We had a nice big corner bed room with a lovely view and nice wooden furniture.

What makes this place so nice is the owner who is extremely friendly and helpful. He gave us lots of advice for possible sight seeing, told us about Shipka nowadays and back in old times etc. Also he speaks quite well english.

We very much enjoyed the food there and the relaxed atmosphere! Freshly cooked, baked breakfast on the spot - we could choose whatever traditional bulgarian dish we like. Same procedure for dinner, we picked some typical dish out of our guide book and two elderly ladies cooked it for us. We enjoyed the food in the garden.

One gets very good value for very little money here. Sadly we only stayed two days here. It's worth to stay longer.

Another tip in and around Shipka: Don't drive up to the memorial church and the monument on the Shipka Pass - use the stairs if you can, it's much nicer!

most friendly and charming place

We were travelling by car through Bulgaria, and chose this place as it was cheap and on our way. Very nice hotel, small, but with good rooms. Breakfast was not included but could be purchased for 1,2-2,5 euro per person. Home made food. The manager helped us to find shop and a place to eat in the evening. He was also increadably helpfull when our car would not start in the morning. Unbeliavable service! 
Advise this hotel to those who are travelling by car, but also for those who want to experience Bulgarian nature and mountains, as it is places in a fantastic area.
