This is a stunningly beautiful property in a great location less than 1km from Mokolodi Nature Reserve.  Rooms are centred around a small swimming pool and ours featured an outdoor shower which, while not affording much modesty, brought a refreshing start to each day.

When we booked, it was for a room with "continental breakfast on the terrace".  When we arrived though, the owner informed us that she'd decided to stop serving breakfasts.  Similarly, it was advertised as having "full use of a kitchen" but again she advised us that she'd decided to stop allowing people to use the kitchen, which was a shame given that we'd stocked up on the way there and all the food had to go to waste.

It was a great place, just not what we booked and, consequently, not great value for money.

Great property, but not as advertised

Lovely setting clean fresh rooms very tastefully decorated. The en suites are decorated in traditional style and our outside shower was excellent. Beautiful house with extremely nice owners at a very good rate. Nice restaurant only 3 mins up the lane in game reserve. Definitely stay again next time we are in town. 

A little Gem in the reserve

Location is not convenient for city but excellent for the game reserve, especially if you have a vehicle.  We didn't have one and were dropped at the reserve by the hotel since the approach is uphill and later we managed to walk back to the hotel.  Unfortunately, although our booking included breakfast, we were told that breakfast could not be provided, so we had to negotiate a compromise deal instead.  This was not very convenient as we had to go some distance to get breakfast.  The old building, furniture and surroundings of the hotel are marvellous as also the wild life.  The freestanding bath without curtains inside the bedroom was not convenient at all; we were later offered a change of room but we managed as well as we could.  The helper who attended to us was wonderful, the management much less so!

Lovely location but services could be improved

if you love nature, you will like this place

Stayed here for 2 nights with my son and husband. First plus is that I really wanted to stay here having seen the reviews but when you are from overseas sometimes places will not accept credit cards for deposits. Not so here. I rang the owner directly "No problem" she said "I'll reserve the room for you and you can pay by credit card when you get here". The house is simply stunning and the owner has put her artistic flair to good use when you see the décor and fittings here. We also had the room with the outside loo and shower which could be a bit chilly - but hey- great fun. Beware of the fact that in Botswana at the moment there is water rationing so we arrived on a Monday and there was no water. However the staff provided us with large bottles to flush the loo which they got from the swimming pool. By the morning the water was back on and there was a plentiful supply of hot water. At the moment they are not doing breakfast so either bring your own supplies (you are welcome to use the kitchen) or  go into Gabarone and forage. The restaurant in the reserve up the road is open for lunch and dinner (not on Mondays!) and the food and ambience is fabulous. There is a lovely room upstairs with a pool table, tv and library. From this there is a lovely terrace where I caught a few rays during the day. I absolutely loved this place and if I win the lottery...... watch out !!!! I could be making an offer. I would quite happily spend a week here just relaxing.

The ONLY place to stay in Gabarone for a chilled out stay

It is no surprise that Mokolodi has been ranked as the number 1 place to stay in Gaborone. Although we had a serious problem locating it, there is no question that on any subsequent visit to the city, it is the only place we would stay. We were given a choice of rooms, one with an open air shower and the one we took with an internal bath (leaving very early we thought it to chilly to shower outdoors). 
I was left speechless by the quality and thoughtful design of the place, as good as any five star hotel I have stayed in anywhere. The fixtures and fittings in the bedroom and public areas were of the highest quality and immaculately kept.
We sat out on the terrace as the sun went down, breathing in the most wonderful panoramic views and wished we could have stayed longer.
Although only breakfast is available, dear LIzzie was so very accommodating and in a wonderful kitchen we were shown where everything was and left to our own devices to make freshly brewed coffee and the light breakfast we required.

A great place when you find it!

Great place, wonderful rooms ours had an outside shower which was great (even in winter), staff extremely helpful and friendly, lots of inside and outside space for chilling, had an honesty bar and great coffee available at all times, good breakfast - highly recommend, walking distance to the Mokolodi nature reserve which has a great restaurant as well as being able to go on short game rides

Excellent place to stay outside the city

The guest house was very attractive and peaceful. However whilst the front person was helpful, training would be beneficial. Tackled us about dates and payment on arrival.We were not informed about use of kitchen.No meals served except breakfast (not sure how clear on website) No tonics in honesty bar. G&T are iconic to Africa! Absent owner would not talk with me about payment as I understand that Hotel.com was responsible. Yet you have not resolved this despite 4 e-mails.

Perfect spot -needs to be more informative

This is a beautiful place to stay. It's difficult to describe as it is unique. A large house with wonderful views and lovely spaces to relax.

A wonderful place

Beautifully set in rural environment, close to a national park this small hotel is something else. Five rooms, spacious sitting rooms for all to use, self service kitchen and “honesty bar”, pool, - and Lizzy, the ever so friendly and helpful boss makes this a perfect place to relax. We stayed for one week before going on the trip of our lives, a tented safari with &Beyond. Mokolodi House turned out to be the perfect preparation, and will be our obvious choice if we ever have the chance again.
