My sister and her family live in Oostduinkerke along the road to Krekeltje so this was a perfect location for us to stay to celebrate a family reunion. We chose the 3 bedroom ground floor villa apartment whilst my younger sister and husband took the upstairs apartment so we were technically all under one roof though there seems to be a 3rd property within the divided building . We were able to park directly outside on the forecourt although the guest instructions seemed to indicate we should park around the corner for unknown reasons. The property and grounds are tastefully decorated and well maintained in general although we found the stored electrical items in our kitchen in need of a good clean. There is also the  use of bicycles and a washing machine in the large garage which were of great use to us. We had difficulties operating the halogen cooker and tv as there were no instruction booklets provided and I emailed the property owner who replied 24 hours later with advice however my Flemish brother-in-law had already sorted out the tv channels by then. At the time of booking it is stipulated in the t&c’s that towels and bed sheets are only provided as a chargeable extra of €10 per person and we found this unusual to say the least as we’d never encountered this before and who on earth wants to transport these if you’re travelling from overseas but fortunately my sister nearby provided this for us but it’s something guests should clearly understand as it poses an inconvenience when packing to travel. However, this aside,  Krekeltje has a lot to offer in a lovely street in a lovely town which has lots nearby and not too far away eg Bruges and Ypres which we thoroughly enjoyed visiting. I would certainly choose to book a future stay at Krekeltje although they only offer complete weeks and 3 day weekend stays which didn’t fit our our 9 day visit in full.

Family reunion on the coast

Stayed here for 3 nights end of august/beginning of September.  
Apartment was extremely spacious with double bedroom,  bedroom with 2 sets of bunk beds, kitchen, bathroom and lounge.
We took our own bedding and towels but you can use the apartments for a small charge.
There is s lovely balcony with table and chairs and a sun lounger.
Kitchen is equipped with fridge, cooker and dishwasher. The cutlery and plates etc were not very clean but this is the fault of the previous visitors not the owners.
The apartment is upstairs to the villa. There is a garage attached to the premises which has bikes you can use during your stay.  There is also a washing machine in the garage. 
The property is about a 20 minute walk to the beach.
I would definitely recommend this property and would definitely book again 

Lovely apartment 

't Krekeltje (The Crickets) is a beautiful detached thatched cottage in a very tranquil area of Oostduinkerke. It has been turned into a series of holiday apartments of various sizes, catering for couples and young families. These self contained apartments are finished to a good standard and you are instantly at home there.

The apartments are curious in that some of their furnishings are to a very high standard while others try to portray a more continental basic feel about them. For example, the kitchen of our apartment was fully equipped with all but a freezer and yet the linen for ALL beds were not included in the price and the pillows were very basic, bordering on poor. We found this out to our cost and had to spend €10 per person on linen. But don't be disheartened. This isn't a scam. They're a lovely couple that own an apartment rental and obviously don't have facilities to cater for a commercial laundry. As long as you remember to bring your own linen, you'll be fine. This would be my only gripe, it wasn't explained on the booking and it should be. The double bed in the master bedroom was also very cheap and needs replacing. It isn't defective, it just doesn't fit with the standard of the rest of the apartment. These are really picky comments that should in no way deter you from booking this lovely little holiday 'bolt hole'.

This particular area of Oostduinkerke is beautiful and just so quiet. It's a medium walk to the seafront (approx. 1km) but the property comes with a selection of bicycles, free of charge, to use at your leisure. This really made our holiday! Our children loved cycling around the seafront of Oostduinkerke and Belgium is so cycle friendly that even novices to cycling (like us) would be safe.

De Panne is a short drive or cycle to the west while Nieuport is almost the same distance in the other direction. All three towns - De Panne, Oostduinkerke and Nieuport have amazing beaches and plenty of cafés and restaurants to dine in and the food is usually excellent. Oostduinkerke is noticeably smaller with less going on but its location between the other towns and so near to the E40 makes it a perfect base by which to explore Ostend, Ypres, Ghent, Bruges or to take the children to Plopsaland in De Panne.

Pets are not permitted at 't Krekeltje and I would say it is not a suitable property for people with disabilities. We're really glad to have found it and hope to be back soon.
