Maria is a gracious, helpful and inclusive host. She does what she can to make you feel cared for and offers her superior experience to help navigate (apply if you're tango dependent!) and find out in the Bueneos Aires tango jungle. The house bears its name with dignity!

I cannot recommend Maria's tango house highly enough.  My first stay was in 2011, and I have been back at least once a years since then.  I returned from my most recent trip about a month ago, and all I can say is, the tango house is my second home in Buenos Aires.  Highly recommended for tango dancers, since Maria will always recommend a milonga and sometimes will be attending and dancing with her guests.  

The tango house is beautiful and charming, with a gorgeous patio always scented with the jasmine that grows there.  The salon in the house is perfect if you want to arrange private lessons or practice. The tango house is ideally located in Balvanera, and one quickly becomes part of a real neighborhood in an area not populated with tourists.  Nice places to have coffee, buy groceries, find a pharmacy, run errands are all within a five minute walk, day or night.  The neighborhood is also quiet and safe, and it's easy to catch a taxi or public transportation from the house.  The location is also great for walking to any sight-seeing you may want to do in the daytime when you're not dancing -- El Ateneo Splendid, Teatro Colon, Av Corrientes, Casa Rosada, Cogresso, Cafe Tortoni, etc., are all within easy walking distance.  Most of the traditional milongas are within walking distance (El Best, for instance), but it's easy to hail a cab at the corner if you don't want to walk or are venturing further afield like to Canning or La Viruta.

I will return again and again to the tango house, because, for me, it's the perfect place and location to stay as a tango dancer.  Maria always has a wonderful staff of friendly and helpful volunteers at the house from all over the world -- some who dance, some who don't.  Over the years I've been staying in the tango house I have made wonderful friends from all over the globe with whom I still stay in touch among the volunteers and other guests.  It's a great place to stay for first-time visitors to BsAs; Maria can develop a program and provide as much help as needed.  It's also great for returning guests like myself who are fairly independent in making daily plans in Buenos Aires, yet still enjoy the fun of attending some milongas with old and new friends at the tango house. Again, highly recommended for all, but ideal for female tango dancers traveling alone or first first-time visitors to Buenos Aires who will dance tango.

I think this was my eight stay? :)

I visited BsAs for a too short eight day tango holiday and again stayed at Maria's friendly place.  This time I stayed in the apartment  rather than a single room.  Very comfortable with a kitchen, a bathroom, an outdoor private eating area, a sitting room and a bedroom on the mezzanine level.  Altogether very comfortable and of course well situated for many milongas. This place has really become my Buenos Aires home and I happily recommend it.

Wonderful short stay

A wonderful month in Buenos Aires. Maria has a small dance salon, and I enjoyed the clases from her recommended teachers. Maria is very involved with her guests. We enjoyed milongas and diners together. It was my third visit to my home away from home.

So many wonderful memories from staying at this tango house: enjoying the afternoon sun on the patio, walking around a quiet and safe neighbourhood, practicing tango or doing yoga in the studio of the house, chatting with new friends....
María is a wonderful host, looks after her guests so well, is generous with her time, knows the tango world and is a firiend. In addition, there are helpful and lovely people who work for the house and attend to our needs. 
A month was too short but I am happy to have stayed in María’s Tango house. 

A lovely month at La Casa de María Tango

Everyone at La Casa Maria House was very helpful, both with speaking English and Spanish and with providing tango classes. We were met at the airport by Luis, a tango singing taxi driver. Our short time at Buenos Aires was well organised, yet flexible. Each day a volunteer accompanied us sightseeing to places of interest.  I loved the galleries, museums and learning about the local history. Gudmund liked 'getting the feel of the place ', the eating houses, markets, shops, riding on public transport, buying tango shoes, the bars and restaurants. 
Most evenings we were fortunate to have Maria Lopez as companion with her wealth of knowledge and connections, we visited a range of milongas, art and music events. We ate well and returned home in the early hours of the morning, on most nights. . 
Our dance classes at the House were organised between 11am and midday with an experienced teacher Carina and we loved being part of the milongas on a nightly basis; the music,skill and vitality of the dancers. On return to Australia, we have a video of tango techniques learnt at our classes, thank you Carina ! Tango is not an easy dance, but we are growing to love it  ! 
We enjoyed exploring Buenos Aires and also our time at Tango House, sharing the small kitchen and spatial courtyard with other residents and visitors. Meeting students and people of different nationalities staying in Buenos Aires to study, work, explore and experience this - grand, old,vibrant and complex city.

8 days isnot enough at La Casa Maria Tango

I had the pleasure of staying at Casa Maria Tango while visiting Argentina.
Maria and her son Frederico are lovely, kind hearted and generous hosts and went out of their way to ensure that my 3 week stay was nothing but the best.
Upon arrival at the airport we were greeted by Luis, a trusted friend of Maria Teresa who runs a private driving service . He was courteous and very personable. I even got serenaded with a famous tango song while getting my first glimpse of the city.
Upon arrival at the house I was greeted at the door and shown my room.
A lovely clean, roomy room with very high ceilings with my own on suite that looked over a beautiful courtyard. The place has a nice bohemian vibe about it with tons of character. I fell in love with it. It is situated in the Balvanera neighbourhood, an up and coming area of Buenos Aires. The location of the house is well located and is near the subte (Subway ) and many bus route. There are little fruit and vegetable stores, bakeries and even a big supermarket to meet all of your needs. I always felt safe.
I learned to navigate the city quite fast with the help of the hosts who were always very helpful and willing to escort me on my first outings to help me get acquainted. Do download the “maps.me “ app . I found it very useful when trying to figure out which subway line to take to a destination for instance.
Maria arranged several times to have money exchanged in the safety of the house. A thoughtful gesture that I really appreciated.
Many great evenings spent with Maria and her friends  discovering local restaurants and enjoying great conversations over a few... many glasses of delicious Malbec.
Do try  Otoxo/Belgrano y EntreRios, La brochette./Sarandi y Venezuela. and Pinuccio . Pasco y Mexico for succulent parillas (BBQ) in the “hood” 
While your at it stop by Cafe de Los Angelitos the oldest Tango coffee bar in Buenos Aires located within walking distance of the Casa at Rivadavia 2100 (at the corner of Ricon). It is spectacular.     
Although my main purpose for my stay was to explore the city, Maria convinced me to take a Tango lesson and attend a milonga (a place where you go to dance Tango). I must admit that it was quite the experience as Tango is such an important part of the Argentinian culture. I could definitely see myself coming back and immersing myself in the beautiful world of Tango.

I will cherish unforgettable memories of exploring, discovering and sightseeing in Buenos Aires along with late dinners with friends under the fragrant jasmine tree in the courtyard of the Casa Maria Tango.

I hope to return again someday soon.

La Casa de Maria Tango

As you see from the title this was my 12th trip to Buenos Aries. I am a professional dancer and teacher of the Argentine Tango. This year I brought 3 of my students with me for their first emersion and experience dancing tango in the local Milongas. They had a wonderful time meeting people from all over the world. They really enjoyed staying at Maria's Tango House. The location is close to many Milongas, Restaurants, Transportation and Historical sites. We even have a Salon in the house to take lessons and to dance tango. The house has a very relaxed feel and each room has a private bath. It is not expensive and the service is great. Maria, has a program each day for tango events that you can follow or not. She makes milonga reservations for you, so when you arrive you have a table in your name. Maybe even sit at her table is the most fun. After two weeks of sightseeing and dancing tango everyday my students headed home. I stayed for another 4 weeks and got to meet people from all over the world that were staying there. I highly recommend Maria's Tango House!  Maybe I will meet you there someday.

My 12th trip to Buenos Aries staying at La Casa de Maria Tango

This was my second visit and not the last. I arrived to a grand party (see pic). After that things settled down a bit. Dined and danced with Maria and friends and guests. The casa offers 2 rooms and one apartment. There is a floor for dancing. Maria is a great resource for milongas and instruction. I had a wonderful time.
