Fantastic
7 reviewsMy family and I rented a three-bedroom villa and were very pleased with our week and a half stay in January. Although we originally wanted to be closer to the beach (about ten minutes away), we waited too long, so there wasn't anything available that we liked. I'm so glad we chose Sugar Loaf, which had exquisite views and sunsets from the house and patio — so peaceful, with horses and cows on the meadow. We liked the small gown of Piriapolis as well; a much more relaxed beach town than Punta del Este, which was filled with high-rises and shops and traffic. Piriiapolis had many lovely beaches and casual restaurants to choose from. And the convenience of Porta-San bathrooms at most beaches. Paul, the manager, was extremely helpful in the weeks before our trip, when I emailed him a number of questions, and during our stay. He responded to my questions in less than a day, sometimes less than an hour. When we arrived, he picked us up at the bus station, gave us a tour of Piriapolis, pointing out his favoriate beaches and restaurants, and took us to the supermarket to stock up on food supplies. (There were very few staples in the house (eg., we had to purchase salt and pepper ). One evening there was a problem with the water, and after a few calls when we communicated our concern, we were provided with jugs of water. The problem was fixed the next morning, when they located and repaired the leak using a backhoe. The house is more impressive in person than it appears in the photos. It was very, very spacious, bright, and comfortable. We were seven adults and two children; my son brought a sleeping tent for his two-year-old. The house was upscale, with attractive kitchen, bathrooms, furniture, outdoor table and chairs (though it was usually very windy, so we didn't eat outside as much as we expected). The swimming pool was small but quite adequate for our needs, and one day we used the parilla by the pool to make an asado. We had no problem with the Internet. There was a large TV, but we didn't watch it, though we did connect a computer to the television to show children's videos. We owed money for electricity at checkout; we knew before we rented that there would be a charge. It seemed high to us, but Paul detailed the number of watts used, and the unit cost. Fortunatey, we didn't use the air conditioner (needed only the fan), which would have cost more. Energy in Uruguay is not cheap. The same with Petrol.
