We took Lonely Planet's advice and came to Etnico. It was a great decision and a true respite from the very depressing airport like city of Chuy. We paid for a shared room (500 Uruguayan pesos each or ~$16 USD) and were put in a lovely private room with comfortable bunk beds, private bathroom (all rooms have private bathrooms) with towels, a fan, and great shutters that block out all light. There is great wifi and breakfast in the morning with coffee, hot milk, orange juice, bread, marmalades, dulce de leche, ham and cheese. We had the place to ourselves pretty much as there were almost no other guests. Staff was very friendly too! We didn't really check the other hostels in the area but this was was great to forget that we were stuck at this sad border town. 

A true respite from what's outside

After such a long journey to Chui and after losing my Passport the staff at the hotel were so incredibly kind. They helped me so so much and were so supportive of my situation. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and everyone !!

So homely, staff are AMAZING and so helpful

We had a lot of trouble booking this hostel, it was listed as sold out & n/a on many sites. We got someone to call for us, which we didn't need to as Rodriquez speaks English very well.

We arrived on a late bus to find many empty beds, so it's a shame really as the place is good and a great price for a night versus the hotel. 

We got a private double upstairs with our own bathroom and fan. Rodriquez gave us this cute little bag with mosquito coils, insect spray, electric adapter and an electric mosquito buzzer. He said there were many mosquitos but we didn't get bitten at all with all that protection! 

Common areas upstairs are very homely and the breakfast was good. We were in town to get a Brazilian visa and weren't sure if we'd need to stay an additional night and he was very accomodating. 

We got some parting gifts which were very thoughtful.

There is some interesting artwork, some which may freak out people!! 

Unique! 

Stepping into this hostel, we were relieved to feel the homely vibe. After being on the road for so long it was nice to relax. There are interesting things painted and hanging on the wall, each room has a separate bathroom, the beds are comfortable and clean and wi-fi is available in the rooms - awesome! The breakfast was excellent with freshly baked goods along with sweet and savoury options. They have a cute little dog too which ads to the homeliness.

The owners are the most hospitable, welcoming people. We spent a lot of time chatting and learning about Uruguayan culture. They were extremely helpful when it came to assisting with organising our travel. 

I would highly recommend the etnico when staying in Chuy.
