Just got back from 3 nights staying in the Acorn Retreat lodge in Crake Valley and the only complaint we had was that it wasn’t long enough! We had an amazing time. The park is lovely and quiet, very well kept with just lots of woodland all around and Acorn Retreat couldn’t have been more perfect for us. It was so secluded, we felt like we were in the middle of nowhere! The pictures on hoseasons don’t do it justice, the lodge and surroundings are much more beautiful in person. The lodge itself is lived in so in part a little bit rough around the edges but nothing you can’t get over and it was very clean and well equipped. We loved sitting in the hot tub looking out at the scenery and woodland. We visited Coniston lake from a few different places by car but preferred to just walk over from the cabin over the road as it was a lot more quiet and we had a little cove to ourselves to swim from. Staying on that park and by that part of the lake, you really wouldn’t believe it was school summer holidays in August, it was that tranquil. The whole break from start to finish was perfect and we can’t wait to go back next year for a week.

Lovely tranquil break in Acorn Retreat

Stayed at Tarn Hows lodge with a covered hot tub. 

A few things need to be sorted before this is an excellent stay:
- Nowhere to hang your wet coats or towels aside from one small heated towel rail and a clothes airer, would be good to have hooks on the backs of the doors and a coat stand at the least
- Nowhere to put muddy boots after long Lake District walks, they could easily fit a shoe rack in the front room which would be well used
- There is no dining room table just two breakfast bar chairs, if they removed the smaller sofa they could fit a proper table and 2 chairs (this would also have the benefit of being great for board games!)
- no storage for your clothes despite paying a lot for a luxury lodge, there were 6 coat hangers for the 2 of us and no room in the wardrobe due to cleaning products. We ended up living out of a suitcase, this could be improved by putting drawers and wardrobe in the room
- Shower leaked everywhere 
- Only one towel provided for each person, despite this being a luxury lodge so this towel ends up soaked as the heated towel rail can’t dry it quick enough with the hot tub and showering. Bring spare towels unless Crake Valley can provide more?
- Nowhere in the kitchen to put your own food as every cupboard was filled with stuff, they should rearrange so we can put our food away 
- When turning on the kettle and microwave the whole electricity for the lodge tripped
- The hot tub shed/cover was very moudly and leaked in the rain sadly 
- No oil, salt or pepper provided (this would be a nice touch) and no extra bin bags!
- The side of the bath tub popped off everytime you run the bath, not very luxury. 
- The blind in the bedroom wasn’t blackout, so everytime someone from the campsite went to the toilet block they shone a torch into our room waking us up! This can be fixed with black out blinds very easily. 
- One of the lights in the bedroom just didn’t work and it was very dark

Positives:
- The hot tub was great, bring sliders and extra towels and enjoy it! 
- Glad washing up liquid was provided in the kitchen
- The Lake District is beautiful and you can drive 2 mins down the road to Brown Hows car park and enjoy the lake on the beach 
- loved the heated mirror and double bathroom sink
- the honesty hut was lovely but perhaps add items like bin bags, sponges, tea towels and useful camping things?

Overall, this was a great holiday but not luxury or worth the price. We will visit the Lake District again and look for another lodge with a hot tub.

Tarn Hows lodge needs improving to be luxury

Lodge was nice, but not very clean, dirty stained sheets, bathroom extractor and ceiling was filthy, wanted to use the washing machine, but the door was missing. Hot tub was the highlight, however the device for opening the lid was also broken, struggled to get the lid back on my own. The recliner on the sofa was also broken. We let a day early as we felt uncomfortable and couldn’t relax.

Disappointed

We had an amazing stay at Crake Valley the lodge and the hot tub were superb, and had practically every thing we needed. 
The location is great for you to explore the Lake District, it’s about 30-40 mins to the nearest nightlife however, this wasn’t a dealbreaker for us. 
The only issue we experienced was on day 2 we received a message to say the power was going to be cut off from 0900-1530 on day 4 by Electricity North West. We asked if this would affect the hot tub temp and the reply was no it wouldn’t as long as the lid remained on. This was true we returned back from spending the day out and the hot tub was perfect. However, we did plan on spending this day at the lodge to relax and rest from spending the first few days climbing mountains. We were unable to do this due to the power supply being cut off, this meant we had no use of the lodge for most of the day, meaning we had to pay to eat out aswell. With this loss of use of the lodge and facilities we asked if there would be any compensation at all in a polite message. We received the following reply which disappointed us.

“Just to be clear it’s not ourselves that are turning the power off it’s Electricity North West. They are not compensating us in any way for this. 

They have given an estimate of 3:30pm for the power to be back on but it may be sooner as they generally build in a buffer for any problems. If you wish to contact them directly to ask if they will compensate you their number is 105

We think it would’ve been the right thing for good customer service to offer a small compensation for this loss of use of the facilities that we had paid for. 

Nevertheless, the site is lovely, clean and the hot tub was amazing. We were just shocked by the staffs response to our polite and we thought reasonable request for some compensation.

We will still recommend this site to friends, already have recommended to someone looking to book for April time.

Beautiful lodge and hot tub. Slightly disappointing customer service.

We had such a lovely stay at Crake Valley. Our lodge was spotless and we all enjoyed using the hot tub! The beds are so comfy and the quality of the furniture, bathrooms etc is a step above your typical holiday lodge. We liked the fact that Coniston lake is just across the road… our dogs loved swimming in there!  A useful addition was a ‘warm water’ hosepipe outside the lodge for you to clean your dogs afterwards! Thank you for such a lovely stay… we shall be back!  Ps. The Wilson Arms at Tover had delicious food, plus the Bluebird cafe overlooking Coniston lake (stunning!) Can also recommend the Red Lion at Lowick bridge for nice food and a friendly welcome! We loved our stay here. 🥰

A fabulous stay! 

We had a fab stay here. We booked for 3 nights but unfortunately due to personal reasons we had to leave after 2 nights. The lodge had everything you needed and more. Plenty of room for the two of us plus dog. Think it may of been a squeeze if there was 4x people in the lodge. The hot tub was lovely only issue would be wish it was a little bit more private but wasn't too much of a problem. We loved our stay as did our dog. Shame the weather wasn't the best for not the lodges fault. Also location seemed a bit way out for things nearby but possibly if the weather was better we could of explored more. But overall we had a great time. I also loved the contactless check in. 

Great lodge - had a fab stay here 

Stayed for Fri-Monday long weekend in number 16.  Wrongly interpreted the photos as being a log cabin…they are pre-fab chalet type buildings…my fault, just not what we were expecting. 
On opening the door on arrival you are hit by the smell of wet dog. We don’t have a dog and so it was noticeable and very unpleasant. Went into the main bedroom to be hit by another strong musty and damp smell. You do get used to it after a while but as soon as you leave the room and go back in…it hits you again. Not a great impression. Damp on the bedroom walls, mould in the bedroom and bathroom and I cleaned the seals around the fridge door to remove the mould before filling it. Consequently all our clothes and the bedding etc felt damp and generally unpleasant. Very small but functional kitchenette so best to go for a “batch cooked at home & oven re-heat” approach which suits us. Did have to wash all the crocks etc before use as didn’t find them overly clean. 
Hot tub was nice and hot and appeared clean, private but not the best view. 
Contactless check-in…actually it was an entirely contactless stay! Received info by text prior to arrival stating we would receive a message to check everything was okay during the stay and asking to text when arrived…which I did…No acknowledgment to our message and never heard anything else during the stay. Very impersonal approach and can give the impression of not being bothered about customer satisfaction. Info asked beds to be stripped and placed into laundry bag…no laundry bag provided.  States covid for guests having to strip beds…seems unnecessary “covid precaution”. Also no bath mat provided so had to resort to using a towel. 
Stayed in much nicer lodges for similar price without all the issues we encountered. Wouldn’t recommend and wouldn’t return as it was not to our standards for the price.  Definitely not up to the “luxury” label I my opinion but could be lovely with more attention to detail to address the obvious issues and consider customer service. 

Definitely not luxury - look elsewhere

Without a doubt, the lodge was truly lovely. The company, however, fail to read the visitor book and the reviews and therefore nothing is improved: the steps up to the lodge are extremely dangerous as the shale needs to be made more safe. There is no cooking spatula; branches scrape the lodge roof when windy; there is a broken blind in kitchen - all not attended to, despite many complaints. The crockery was poor with no matching sets. There were insufficient glasses (a broken wine glass left in cupboard), if four people stay, there is insufficient crockery. There is a tea pot but no milk jug. The lodge needs a fan as the upstairs bedroom is very hot. We also felt that the balcony, table and chairs also needed to be cleaned prior to our arrival. We arrived to sweep up leaves and clean the table and chairs - unacceptable when paying luxury prices. Let us hope the company read and take on board these comments and rectify the problems.

A surprising find! Quiet and peaceful. The Cedars lodge and hot tub sat above the rest and had great privacy.

Lovely hidden gem if you want to get away from the busier parts of the lakes. I gave it 4 star than 5 just because of the bed in the main bedroom. I'm not picky but one side of the bed dipped which felt like you was falling out of bed. Not good for the back really.
Overall the lodge has everything you need for a self catering week. Was a nice touch to also have some supplies of tea bags, coffee, sachets of milk, washing up liquid, sponge and a tea towel. There was even bin bags, hoover, washer and clothes airer so all was perfect other than the bed.
Down the drive and across the road is the tip of the lake. You can go through the field but there's sheep or you can follow the path around which also takes to to the lake. Our dog loved this twice per day.
You do need to drive to a pub or shop though but if you're to travel the lakes it's perfect 

Lovely week break away with the husband and our dog

we stayed for a long weekend in the blencartha lodge which allows dogs , the check in process was very easy and the cleaners were just finishing when we arrived.
the lodge was spotless and the complimentry coffee was welcome.
the lodge had everything we needed barring a mop (spilt drink).
this lodge was elevated into the tree conopys which was nice to listen to the birds and watch the squirrels, with the hot tub in a slightly sunken  rock garden which protected you from the breeze.
The lodge is around 100m from coniston water 
Check out was just as easy as check in.
If i had one gripe it would be the wifi signal was none existent (we like to stream  a film in the evening) but the location must make it very difficult supply one
