Pros

Good portion sizes, nice drinks, lovely desserts, reasonable prices 

Cons 

Service was lacking! No return to the table to check on drinks or how are meals were. We had to move tables as our small table was placed next to a large loud group with small children, plenty of other seating so could have placed us anywhere else. 

Once moved to another table no service whatsoever, a do it yourself job. 



Nice food but service needs to improve 

It’s a small hotel set in a quiet location set back from the road so no local noise. Our warm spacious room was in an annex a very short walk from the reception and restaurant. We had a terrific evening meal served to us by a very pleasant friendly receptionist. Our single beds were very comfortable and warm resulting with a pleasant sleep that night. The hotel/restaurant did not serve breakfasts but a small continental breakfast was in our room upon arrival. The breakfast was a disappointment and we only consumed the orange juice supplied, but this was the only disappointment. Extremely very good value for £50.00 per night per coupe. Highly recommended.

Overnight stay on route.

We have tried to book a family party for  20 people at The Millhouse and managed to eventually speak on the phone to a very bored person who did not want to know but also  left a detailed (very polite) message with no response . Not wanting to give up, we even called in yesterday as we were very keen to potentially hold our event here (having done so previously) BUT was told that the manager was too busy to see us and although helpful ,the waitress was unable to answer any of our questions. We went away very disappointed with the lack of total interest and discourtesy of the manager. We will not be back - EVER!

Very disappointed!!

Two words.  Pudding.  Night.  

Doesn’t get much better than £17 per person, for a main course and UNLIMITED desserts (12 desserts, one of each, if you order for delivery).

The food is always exceptional, well cooked and tasty.  The service is always very good and the staff are always polite.

There’s a very good selection of drinks available, including some lovely cocktails expertly made by the bar staff (at a reasonable price too).

If it’s a special occasion, you can purchase Cuban cigars from the selection at the bar.

We had a conversation with Karl (possibly the manager/owner) who was very accommodating and extremely helpful and polite, an excellent reflection on the hotel and restaurant.

From me, this place comes highly recommended.

A firm favourite

Visited today for Sunday lunch with my in-laws. First impressions were good but there were only 3 staff that we could see on duty. The service was terrible, 45 minutes from order to the food on the table. Saying that the food was amazing. Then another wait for dessert 40 minutes. When we came to pay as we were waiting I noticed the windowsill in the reception covered in dead flies....had I seen that going in I would not have eaten there. Once we had paid as we went to the car my mother in law realised we had only been charged for our mains no desserts, so we went back inside and paid what we owed.
The food was lovely but I will not be returning, the poor service and the dead flies in reception has put me off.

Diaappointed

I booked a delivery of the pudding night, I asked for a 5pm delivery slot and advised it will leave at 5pm and be delivered by 5:30. The order did not arrive until 5:55. The burger buns were soggy (making them inedible) the fries were lukewarm, the Asian slaw was amazing! We were missing two puddings and one had the topping stuck to the box. The apple crumble was made in a plastic tub, meaning it needed to be transferred to cook it (not ideal, but not the end of the world). When I contacted them to advise of these issues, the response was we really appreciate the feedback, they couldn’t even apologise for their errors. Overall a disappointing experience and wish I never bothered, there are much better tasting local restaurants who actually value their customers.

Terrible customer service

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in Oct 2020. The room  was very small with no openable window, so became very hot through the night (would be unbearable in the summer). The room had cobwebs in most corners and was in generally poor condition.  The bathroom was a good size but no very useable due to the shower flooding the room when in use and the mirror above the sink would have been a good height for a small child to use. On the plus side the staff we had contact with were very friendly.

4 of us booked (of course) for an evening meal. Well organised to cope with C19, location looked lovely though it was dark when we arrived. Reasonably wide menu, especially good for starters, everyone said they really enjoyed everything. I could just have had each of the starters! Can't comment on desserts as we were all too full after starters and mains.

A big thank you to all the staff at Millhouse Hotel. Last weekend I celebrated a belated milestone birthday with  family and friends at the hotel.  Our tea party was 2 days before the rule of six was implemented. I was anxious about mixing 23 people of all ages especially as there were 4 children in the party. Nothing was too much trouble, we received excellent service our room  had adequate social distancing and a space had been allocated outside for the children. 
The tea was exceptional, generous portions, plenty of everything and very tasty. Everyone enjoyed themselves. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. My day was perfect.

Well done to brian on here wish we had looked on tripadvusor first its all true ! We stayed 17th september .
2 rooms 2 adults but changed rooms due to terrible a45 road noise all night through badly fitting windows .
Dirty carpets .
Unwelcoming reception area.
Manky furniture in breakfast area .
No breakfast as expected but kebab box with croissant from a cheap market a terrible tasting childs orange drink a cheap muesli bar .Cheapest nastiest breakfast con ever .
Dirty pillow cases .
Totally worn out pillows with no protectors disgusting .
Uncomfortable mattresses.
Some windows locked broken and draughty with added cobwebs .Dirty stained carpets and all rooms we stayed in 
Previous users hairs in showers in all 3 rooms .
All showerheads dirty and blocked .
Useless non working wi fi in bedrooms .
Holes in curtains.
Dead insects and cobwebs.
Very difficult to change hotel at short notice  but had to force ourselves to stay although used our jackets over pillows .
Layed in bed thinking about the lack of cleaning throughout terrible sleep for 3 nights .
From above marquee is covered in algae god knows what its like inside .
As is the conservatory roof a real mess 
Approacing the river its a mass of nettles no idea how you can claim to see a river for gods sake ! Binoculars maybe ??

Dirty used plates and containers litteraly thrown outside of kitchen in the open!  fag butts galore heaven knows how dirty the kitchens are .The rats will be eating off the plates you will be eating off the next day a real health and safety issue .
The whole hotel smells horrible especially in the morning when no staff member is seen and you have to unlock the manky doors to get out and let fresh air in .
Oh yes no local taxis cost fortune to go anywhere !
Even the road signs and entrance are unloved 

Covid has killed this place and to be fair it will do us and unsuspecting customers a favour if it goes bust which it will and unfortunately deserves too the sooner the better .

A new fresh owner and a major renovation and deep clean desperately needed .

Huge wasted potential !
