A beautiful building in a fantastic setting with easy going and friendly staff. We stayed in room 15 which looks out on the magnificent hillsides. Even on a Saturday night there wasn't any noise from guests coming and going. The family own the Woolpack Inn, just up the road, where you find a great atmosphere with beautiful food and hand pump beers.

Fantastic house, location and people. 

Lovely property beautifully maintained. Rent it by the room or as we did the entire house. It’s set is vast gardens adjacent a stream which is easily accessed from the rear gardens, outside BBQ and wooden hut which seats 12 or so and can by prior arrangement have heating. All this just outside the cinema room which easily accommodated 26 adults and children and allows games TV or media to be streamed. All rooms en-suite and very clean and equipped with all amenities including tea/ coffee etc as well as TV’s . Several large lounges and a massive kitchen and dining area over looking the garden area. Any problems just pick up the phone and it’s sorted . Owned by same people who own the nearby Woolpack Inn & Hardknott bar and cafe so highly recommend a visit just up the road . A place we left with fond memories having spent an enjoyable extended weekend break and can’t wait to come back

The house is very homely and has beautiful views and gardens. The room was very clean and cosy. Me and my boyfriend climbed scafel pike and it was only around a 30 minute drive to here which was perfect for us. Would stay again!

Very good

Perfect for our needs. Rooms are clean and comfortable, had an excellent night's sleep. Reception is unmanned for periods of time but there is a direct phone line to contact staff. Appreciated the flexibility of communal living spaces and kitchen. We brought our dog and he was very happy! 

Surrounding landscape is just breathtaking. Don't expect phone signal but the wifi at the property was great. A perfect base for laid back travellers- and certainly the best value we found! Even saw an electric car charger at the front! 

Perfect casual base, incredible scenery 

Absolutely perfect place to stay, with kitchen and dining area facilities available to guests. The room was okay, with plenty space.Was great to have the freedom of Stanley House, like staying at your own house. No pressure from the owners. Also lovely grounds to explore, with the steam railway passing across the road.A special place to stay, in a special part of the World.

What a great house for a big get together, the bedrooms were great and lovely and warm even in November, the kitchen - dinning area was ideal as it was all open plan so no one was stuck in the kitchen. The kitchen had everything we needed and all in good condition. The owners were very helpful before the trip and during it, they ensure we had everything we needed. We are sure to return.

Birthday celebration

Stayed here for two nites and found it to be a great place to stay, comfortable rooms with views over hills, big dining area, bring your own food and cook it in the kitchen, they provide plates etc, they provide cereals, bread & a big fridge to put all your food in, bit weird at first but  it works well , worth a stay, owned by Woolpack Inn Eskdale which is just up the road, you get transfers to pub at nite time.

Good place to stay

Not far from Scafell Pike,  stayed with my daughter, everything you need for a walking stay. Left my expensive brand new laptop in the room when we left and promptly posted it back to me. Massive relief thank you. Very honest.

Great location for Scafell Pike

Had a fantastic time here with a large group of friends over the late May Bank Holiday, and I would definitely recommend it. 
Rooms are very comfortable and large, most having en suites. They can be configured as either large doubles or twin beds. 
There had been some refurbishment since I first viewed it in March, and I believe this is ongoing, which is probably necessary, though we found the slightly shabbiness very comfortable and homely. 
We didn't have time, or need, to use all the amenities, which included a cinema, barbecue area and boot room. 
The garden is beautiful at this time of year. 
Fantastic situation for walks right from the back door, in a very quiet corner of the Lakes, and the Eskdale railway is great fun. 
There is a piano:-)), but it's rather out of tune:-(
