Spindle Lodge came to my attention due to it's location - and a reasonable price, we recomend full B & B, it's a great breakfast to start the day with juices, yoghurt and cereal, hot food tasty and cooked to order.

Don't be alarmed on arrival as the outside badly needs updating at this time and is tatty.  On site parking when available is a great plus.  The inside is of Victorian appearence but don't panic this is as a result of deliberate and careful preservation of many original features by the current owners.  We stayed in (family) room 5.  This room, as with the dining room is to the rear and peaceful and pleasant.  During breakfast we watched the birds bathing in dew on the thick shrubs outside the window.  Spindle Lodge is a relaxed atmosphere 'deep down' clean and tidy and everything worked - in these respects this team is way ahead of the chains of budget hotels.

There is a lot to see and do within easy walking distance.  Welford Road 'Tigers' Stadium is 10 mins away, as is the town centre.  King Power Stadium no more than 20 mins easy walk.  Leicester still enjoys the old style well maintained municipal parks, museums etc - unlike the area we live in that has been devastated by austerity.

Thank you Melba for looking after us so well during the owners own break away.  We are delighted to recomend this establishment as a home from home for short - or longer visits.  We will stay again.

Short weekend stay for rugby games....

Me and two friends stayed for 2 nights this weekend as we were going to a Ross Noble gig nearby. The 3 person room worked out at £25 per person per night including breakfast. 

For the price I'd put up with a lot and though the stay wasn't perfect the room was clean, quiet and cool (but not cold), which are the most important things for me personally.

The building and welcoming had character, some people may not like it but if you're easy going you'll find these things interesting and inoffensive. Molly the cat is very sweet (and not allowed upstairs or in the rooms).

The area and parking are compelling reasons to choose Spindle Lodge on its own. I felt perfectly safe but there were women prostituting in the area, though not immediately outside (it's a central location). If you're bothered by this or prefer to pretend such things don't exist then I guess that could be a worry.

Nearby you must visit St Martin's coffee roasters for excellent food, service and atmosphere. (Expect hipster)

Also enjoyed the Richard III visitor centre - perhaps a little pricey this was engaging and well thought out.


Convenient and exceptional value

We stayed here to attend a wedding. 

The hotel has free parking, a plus, and is set in a beautiful building. 

The hall way is beautiful.  The rooms are tired but functional and clean. 

As the hotel is just outside the main run is quiet and we slept ok. My husband found the mattress a little thin.

It's an okay hotel. Nothing special does as it says on the tin.

Stayed here for one night. It was very old fashioned and needs a lot of decorating. Towels were brown and very hard. Just felt it could do with a lot of TLC. Although it says bed and breakfast it is not you have to pay extra for breakfast.  Didn't bother with that at £7.50 each. Lady was very chatty but doesn't seem to realise that people who stay will not recommend and will not stay again. Also if you go bring your own toiletries as none provided. Wouldn't stay again and would not recommend.

Not Nice

Stayed at this guest house for one night as we were going to De Monfort Hall.  Although a good location, room was very scruffy and old fashioned a bit like staying at your nana's.  Room was very stuffy and not too clean, cobwebs eveywhere.  Beds were uncomfortable and TV too small.  Bathroom was up a very high step and the shower didn't work.  We had such a bad night we had too leave early and it really spoilr our weekend away.  Never again!
