Not 5 star at all this is the worse place I’ve stayed at due to the rudeness of the woman in charge 

Highly recommend you go elsewhere somewhere where you are treat as a full paying customer 

Rudest women in charge- Beverley who very nearly ruined a perfect day for us

Actually told my partner we ought to leave at 8.30pm as we told her the room was not up to standards (wardrobe door missing)

The view from our small room was the view of a caravan ...  romantic (room 3)

Tv was about 1inch long 

So disappointed with our stay for such a special surprise evening on my proposal (thank goodness he didn’t plan it for the hotel)

we will never get back that special night, when I spoke to her to explain how upset I was and that the pictures he has shown me reflect nothing on what Our room standards were and his disappointment for paying to be somewhere extra special was unnecessary and a huge let down. Be warned if booking during Covid your rooms are nothing like advertised at all. Beverleys attitude was for us to leave and she , even though she didn’t need to (she repeated this around 40 times in a rude abrupt and aggressive manner) she would give us 50% refund ! Absolutely horrific that someone could be so rude and think my partner has money to burn in such a difficult time for us all. 

My friends were going to book after our visit and I told them do not support someone so nasty and heartless

I understand it’s a hard time for us all, but she shouldn’t be selling the rooms as shown on pics that is not what you get then arguing with lying customers who are actually supposed to be enjoying celebrating an amengagement an hour before arriving at the shambles place. All essentials stripped from the room.... didn’t realise a wardrobe door would be included. I was very fair to her but after one phone call didn’t want to deal with her again. She was so unprofessional and we never got a penny back. She was talking how she must make money then in the next breath saying she works for the nhs and we should be grateful for her... never experienced anything like it. Awful

Put me off ever using small business for pleasure stays again . I would 100% stick with the big ones who know how to treat unsatisfied customers, hey may even smile and speak kindly to you too

DO NOT RECOMMEND 

Premier inns would have been much nicer somewhere you can see the tv and get what you pay for

More than disappointing

The evening of our proposal RUDEST woman Beverley made our experience very negative

Just arrived home after a long journey involving an overnight stay at the Bijou Harrogate 
The property is nowhere near a 5 star as advertised and not worth £99 per night at all ( price didn’t include breakfast which we were told about beforehand) 
The hotel is a nice looking large house from the outside but step inside and it’s more like the Margate hotel from only fools and horses jolly’s boys outing to Margate.
Inside It’s tired and in need of a deep clean and overhaul, now to the room, the bed is low to the floor, windows even when closed let in considerable noise from the main road and one window had a draught and blinds didn’t fit properly and let light in around edges cleanliness wasn’t high on the owners agenda and not sure if cleaning made it onto the daily list, dirt on windows sills, skirting, blinds and dust in a ramshackle kind of wardrobe which also housed a tiny tv, bed felt like laying on a road which had melted in the sun and had traffic lines I.e divits, it creaked as well and frame was coming apart at the foot of the bed, bathroom was quite nice though and almost as if they had started some sort of renovation and gave up on the rest of the building, although it had two sinks one didn’t run hot water only the sink furthest away from the door, nice spot lights in skirting but door frames dirty along with skirting.
Overall if you have £99 to use on an overnight stay choose premier inn as compared to the Bijou they are luxury, don’t waste your money on this place you will regret it like  I did.
Not 5 star, possibly might make a 3 not boutique at all, just an old run down B and B glamming itself up in description.
Only positive is it’s location to the town which is very! Nice and worth a visit

Underwhelmed

We booked a night at the Bijou for our wedding anniversary in May 2020 on the recommendation of a work colleague just before the Covid pandemic set in (which we paid in full at time of booking) Unfortunately due to the government imposed travel restrictions and all bars / restaurants being closed we were unable to stay. My wife contacted the owner (Beverley Kemp) and agreed that they would honour the booking once the government imposed restrictions were lifted. Despite multiple attempts at calling, e-mailing etc... this woman has ignored our attempts to re-arrange this booking. Both my wife and I are key workers who have not stopped throughout the Pandemic, and despite our best efforts the £100 paid will never be refunded and we will not get to stay the night we paid for. The owner is a disgrace with zero thought for her customers. She is clearly not struggling financially if you look into her business dealings... but is happy to just take £100 from key workers without fulfilling bookings. I would recommend never dealing with this woman or staying in her property. If zero stars were possible that’s what I would give. Disgusting attitude and appalling customer service.

Disgusting attitude

Disliked  · Booked via booking.com advertised as 5 star Boutique Hotel, sorry but I have no idea how. On arrival no host present in the property, even the door buzzers had been removed. Had to ring a mobile number to be told where to find key and find our own way to our room the reason given was because of Covid which at first seemed reasonable, however at this point informed no tea and coffee available in the room. The entrance hall smelt musty, no hand sanitizer available. Once in the room discovered no toiletries ie shower gel etc and not even bottle of water available. I appreciate the Hotel had been in lock down, but it appears that both the inside and exterior has not been tidied up to receive paying guests. Don’t feel at all I got what I paid for, it’s a real shame as it is obvious that it was at some point a nice hotel. The room was very tired and needed a good update and clean. If If I had known of this I would not have booked it. It is definitely not 5 star standard. I’ve paid for an expensive bed for a night I feel a little duped

DISAPPOINTING

We booked through booking.com and not the owner direct so no contact with owner at the time the website said breakfast included or another website said free breakfast. It was only until the evening of the stay did we find out no breakfast was included. The breakfast times are still Advertised in the room manual and also still at the front door. Lots of other facilities offered were not available too such as no hostess, no reception, no tea & coffee facilities, not even a glass for water, no toiletries, no bar, honesty box bar not replenished. There were no pillow protectors and the pillows were past their best. The room was very tired and needed a good spruce up. You cannot sleep with the windows open as the road noise is very loud; you definitely need earplugs even with windows closed. The plastic plants makes this beautiful building look tacky and the garden is not maintained and the ivy is growing over windows and signs; it looks unloved.  If I had known none of these facilities were available we wouldn’t have booked it. It is definitely not 5 star standard and neither a boutique. We have paid for a bed for the night only and certainly not a B&B so we feel we have been mis-sold and we aren’t very happy.

Upon our arrival we were met by another couple where also staying here, it was like the Marie Celeste nobody to check you in so we had to ring. Then to be told despite requesting breakfast when booking, there was no breakfast. There is nothing on the website saying this. Room was small but adequate, dust around the bedside lights, still had throw & cushions on the bed despite Covid-19 advise being to remove. 
On the plus side close to town, shower was good & bed comfortable, shame we were woken at half seven by loud music.
Assume as there is a planning application to convert to apartments owner is not bothered anymore 

Boutique?

This great little hotel made our harrogate weekend special. The decor was gorgeous so had to take photos   The staff friendly and helpful. The room was spacious clean and the white fluffy towels with the dressing gowns was just a special touch as were the sweeties in the room   The breakfast was tremendous can't think of anything they left out.  Can't wait to return

A gem in harrogate

How very disappointing my telephone conversation and overall communication has been with The Bijou. I booked this beautiful looking B&B on 29 Feb and as the government guidelines re COVID 19 have changed, for obvious reasons, I wanted to speak to somebody to see what was going on re hotel being open etc. Today I finally spoke to Beverley after several calls and emails and no reply. She was very abrupt and rude towards me when I asked about cancellation etc. I’d already emailed to state that my auntie who I was travelling with has emphysema so therefore I could not bring her. After Monday 24th announcement I presumed as most other hotels were closing down that the Bijou would close and take on a adherence approach rather than act how they are in an unethical manner by still opening and encouraging the public to travel without essential reason and not offering a refund nor a move of date.  I understand small businesses as I myself am in a similar boat as most of the world is but it’s nice to be nice and in the hospitality industry we play a massive part of keeping people safe and abiding by the government advice and commands. This is very much not about the £127 as I know that refunding that and all other bookings is detrimental to the bijou but what it is about is being nice, respectful and accommodating to each other. I will not further my refund either at the bijou, booking.com or via my insurance but I really hope that this is a lesson learnt for not just Beverley but others when in world crisis that we need to work together and help each other. Stay safe and stay inside.

Beverley ....where to start

Fabulous little hotel on Ripon Road, ideal for walking into Harrogate. Bev made us really welcome and was waiting to greet us when we arrived. The room was lovely and comfortable with a new shower and a huge comfy bed. Breakfast was first rate, with Bev offering a range of delicious options,  including an Italian breakfast and scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.
Would definitely recommend as an ideal base for visiting Harrogate. 

Lovely hotel

Stayed overnight on a chilly January weekend. Lovely welcome. Warm, clean comfortable room including brilliant big shower. Good choice of great quality food for breakfast including wild smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Only 5 to 10 minutes walk down then up hill into the centre of Harrogate. Recommended.
