Great location and value for money

This hotel is dinghy and bleak, but convenient and cheap. It was satisfactory because all we needed was a room overnight prior to an early AM flight out of Izmir. It was completely no frills and inexpensive- we paid 80 TL. The air conditioning, shower and bathroom worked. It is easy to find- we walked from the Izmir Basmane train station in less than 15 minutes. Hotel was very convenient to restaurants on Hurriyet Blvd, and an easy 500 m, safe-feeling walk at dawn to the airport shuttle bus on Gazi Osman Pasa Blvd near the Swiss Hotel.

Note that the hotel's location on the Booking.com map is incorrect- it is actually one block to the NE across Hurriyet Blvd.

The room was semi-clean but the corridors were dirty. The bed was lumpy. The receptionist seemed uninterested in providing any more service than giving us a key and taking our money. The man who was there in the evening was helpful and friendly and spoke some English. We did not eat there, but the restaurant wasn't appealing, either. A plethora of indoor/outdoor restaurant selections are on Hurriyet Blvd just around the corner. There was no computer at the hotel [despite the on-line claim of having a 'business center'] so we had to find an internet cafe [not as common as they used to be] to confirm our next-day flight. On-line photos and in the hotel's brochure are misleading; the hotel is not attractive, the staff was not smiling. The advertised setting does not mention that the front of the hotel opens onto a narrow and largely deserted street taken up mostly by parking and backdoor acess to businesses- at first it seems a pretty dodge setting. Fortunately, Hurriyet was only 1/2 block away and is a pedestrian-filled, busy street with restaurants. The hotel does not take credit cards. Izmir Elit Otel is useful only as a short term bolt hole for a quick stay prior to travel onward.
